Smoked Tailights - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #63771 41 posts Started by Rook
I've been wanting to smoke my taillights. My friends told me he knew how to do it but i saw how he did his Integra and my other bud's Cavalier...and it looks really dull. I want to do it but make sure it looks good...like the glossy look:) Is that hard to do...or is my friend just not good at it? lol.

Oh! im also thinking about front light covers. I'm thinking about getting some GTS covers i found on andysautoparts. What shade would look best...and would i have problems with those here in Texas? kindasad.gif
He probably just didn't use a clear coat on the other taillights. If they look good otherwise, then I'd let him try it.

got pics?

nah i can get some though. Sometime at the end of the week.
For a glossier look use VHT Niteshades, you know what he uses?

2006 BMW 330i - 6 Speed - Dinan Stage 12014 Toyota Rav4 XLE
he said he used the paint. and he added a couple layers of gloss
Im not to sure about using just paint. I have seen what the nightshades looks like and its pretty decent. Although being in texas I dunno, maybe I should ask some bored cops or something....
i could just ask the cops from school they're pretty cool with me. So..where can i get nightshades? i've only found covers for the headlights..

Ive done a couple of sets of mine.

using 2 pac clear and black mix, custom ratio that i can remember so i cant really help there, prob around 50/50.
here is a couple of shots to show how the light affects how tinted they look.

yes, ill means awesome. a variation of that would be "ill-nasty" or synonyms to it could vary a such as sickie, fresh, dope, nasty, or a combo such as "dope sick nasty fresh"

i'll look into the mix haha.

ohh i see i see. Us aussies hadnt heared of calling something ill. but i suppose we use sick so its the same hey.

yeah look into it, its the easiest and im my opinion the best method.

giev the tail lights a bit with scotch brite or some 2000 grit wet and dry and a good clean with prepsol (wax and grease remover) before giving it the beans.

I masked off the indicator and the reverse section for the first couple of coats, then removed it for the last couple so they are a bit lighter.

If you want a "painted" look and a durable finish, I can hook you up with the guy who did the lights on my Vette. It's a gel coat that gets sanded and polished, essentially the same treatment as paint. Looks FANTASTIC, and he can lay it as thin or as dark as you want. here's what it looks like:

The tail lights and side markers used to be red and the reverse lights (each side of plate) were white.

I paid $215 to have the complete 9 piece set done (four tail lights, one high mount tail light, reverse light panel, side markers, front turn signals). For just the tail lights I couldn't see him charging more than a hundred bucks. I'll PM you the contact information for the guy. You'd have to ship him your lights, but you shoudl be able to find a donor set to use for the interim if htat's your only car. Also, he does a VERY quick turnaround and you could probably do a 4 day turnaround over a weekend.
mine is 2 pac, and cost me nothing, i did the middle one also.

yea i used the VHT nightshade stuff....wors pretty good..only thing i would recomend is 1) do it in a garage if you can or somewhere somewhat warm because it likes to run....2) light and EVEN coats work the best...if you spray too much in one area then it will be darker...you cant really tell untill you put it back on and theres a big black spot on the light....other then that it works great, looks awesome and its not that expensive...i was thinking about doing my high beams like a light shade of black and see how it would look...i dunno we'll see
