Remember though that this is all entirely contingent on if I have enough gas money for this whole trip. As for keeping up with anyone, well... I'll be in back with D-Man

Edit - I'll be behind D-Man, he's at least got a 5S

I've got an ST and actually kept pretty close around the twisties, its just the straight aways you gotta worry about lol

May is a long ways away to save up some $$ and to get things done.
What's funny is that my car's been knocking for about 3 years now and I've done this cruise twice in one year so far without any problems. As Death said, "That is one Frankenstein of a motor."

A bit? I get carried away sometimes. Hopefully by this meet I'll have a good set of tires instead of my bald Ecsta ASTs lol
But yes, I like to consider myself a pretty good driver!

Why don't we combine this with the Dallas meet and you guys come up here? Give us North Texas guys a chance to stay in the area instead of us always having to drive down there.
First of all the only DFW guys that show up to these big Texas meets are Darthripley and Mario. So really those two are the only ones doing any driving, and im pretty sure theyll come to this as well. I think were all pretty set on Austin again, its just a sick location for a meet.

Sorry, no animated sigs allowed.
for a state-wide meet Austin is the most central location for everyone to come & the driving in the Hill Country cannot compare to roads in North Texas.
the Houston crew drives just about as far as we do to get to Austin - the mileage is comparable, so it's the most fair to everyone since Texas is a HUGE a$$ state.
Matt (GotToyota) - if you are thinking of Motorsports Ranch have you looked into how much an event costs there & how many people are necessary to sign up?
Joe & I have done it there before with the RX7 club & it wasn't exactly cheap - not saying it wasn't worth it, but not everyone driving up from Houston/San Antonio may be able to afford the gas to get up here + ~$150-200 for track time + possibly staying here + gas for the drive back home + food, drinks etc.

A buddy of mine is selling his '04 WRX for about $18K obo. Nice cars. Plenty of room for 4, easy to drive, and you just gotta love the exhaust note those Subies spit out. Engine bay looks like a nightmare though, but that's just me.

yeah, I ain't big ballin to spend that much money plus the 8+ hour round trip. I've got family up in Richardson, but I'm not looking to barge in on them alone and I'd rather not spend money on a hotel. I much prefer the 4-5 hour round trip to Austin. Leave Houston by 8:30, be in Austin by 11-ish and still have plenty of time to do things before leaving for home around 6 like we did last time.

yeah i did

i was gonna say hold out for an alltrac, but then i thought you'd prolly like to actually drive it more than a couple months a year so i decided not to post that lol
WRX's are cool cars with TONS of aftermarket support.
i would just make sure the tranny is in tip-top shape - they seem to be made of glass + tinfoil unfortunately
the engine bay looks even more fun to work on than an alltrac lol
Joe got to drive an STi & said it was super nice.
we also drove a Legacy GT which i loved but those might still be kinda expensive used.
it's just a shame the SVX is such a heavy pig of a car - i've always loved those.

I'm just saying these meets are always more convenient for you South Texas guys which isn't exactly fair. I wasn't saying let's do a meet at Motorsport Ranch, there are many other places we can go.
austin hill country is wayy more fun and free to do.
gottoyota its not that bad of a drive, about 30 more min south of where we met up to trade rims.
count me in on this one and add me to the n/a list
OT but im in houston now and just left matt's house (death) thanks for the hospitiality and the SRI and tC girll! Be ready for me to make this trip up here again next summer for you know what! (shhh keep it on the DL

No offense, but it's still a drive for us Houston folks. stephen_lee makes one hell of a trip from Victoria, Tx to make it to these, so if something were to go on in Dallas, it's an even longer drive for him and I don't see how that's fair for him. And hell, gas is LESS THAN $2/gallon now and it's not like we're all driving gas guzzling 6.0L V8s and what nots, so there really shouldn't be an excuse not to make the drive unless your car blows up, or something catastrophic. Again no offense. Just my $.02
Edit: Also, if the distance is a main concern for
anyone, then this cruise is definitely NOT ideal for you. As soon as everyone arrives at said destination and is ready to go after having lunch, gassing up, and what not, there will be an additional 100+ miles going along the planned route. So, if the drive is of greater reason than the experience of the cruise and getting the chance to meet new people/faces, then this cruise is definitely NOT an ideal trip for you.

Yeah, my drive is 2.5-3 hours from Victoria to Austin, and you don't see me complaining! I'm just glad to get out and see some nice cars

Bottom line - A DFW area meet is ONLY convenient to DFW area people. As much as I would like to accommodate Joe and Ripley I bet there would be almost no chance of anyone south of Austin showing up and maybe half the people from Houston would show - maybe. In other words you'd just end up with another DFW meet with maybe a guest or two.
it's not our fault you guys decided to live in damn near Oklahoma but it's really just another hour for you guys anyway.
Spolski - NP - hope you enjoy it.
