MR2 or Celica? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #6270 19 posts Started by Uppitycracker
Hey guys,

I have been debating for a while what car I should get and I think Ive came to a sensible conclusion. Ill just kinda lay out the pros and cons for each car Ive been considering:

Mr2T:
Sexy ass car.
Already has 3sgte.
only 91 model in price range(and thats if i find a deal).
2 seater.
insurence$$.
super fun to drive.

Celica:
Love the look.
Alot cheaper.
Can afford 94-95GT.
newer alot less kms.
Ill save 5000 buying it so that will be money for a 3sgte.
Where in ontario do they swap 3sgtes?hmmm.
More practical since I live on my own and need trunk space.
insurence is around the same as mr2.

300ZX:
Sexy car, so wide":).
Lots of power already.
complicated car with alot of upkeep.
can only afford a 1990, lots of kms.
if not alot of kms then 100k km maintenance probably hasnt been completed.
insurence$$

Keep my MX-3:
its paid for.
klze swap costs about 3000, straight bolt in, no new axles, or harness or anything and pumps 200hp NA stock.
after market parts are EXPENSIVE, like 700 for a nice bumper.
could use a repaint, and new suspension.

Out of all those Id most prefer the celica, that was the original car I was considering when selling my mx-3, and its the reason I am selling my mx-3, I drove by a dealership in chatham and saw a 94celicagt sitting there and decided on the spot i was selling my car and getting one. >biggrin.gif>

well considering everthing you listed i would go with the celica...

think you answered that yourself mate, celi all the way!!! >wink.gif>
Now is the time to get your celica. I just checked autotrader.ca and there is about 14 for sale in ontario and the prices range from $6,900 to $17,500. There is even a sweet ass yellow one in there for only $7,500. I know there are shops in TO that do swaps, but don't know if any specialize on the 3SGTE swap.

I think speedracer 2020 looked into shops about this. You may want to ask him.
Awesome thanks for the tips geekboy, ya I check the autotrader every day, I have three searches saved on my links bar, celica, mr2, and 300zx >biggrin.gif>
>biggrin.gif> >biggrin.gif> i think you should go with my celica i mean jeez, im right across the lake from ya >wink.gif> and if you do ill toss in a free ride in my MR2t >biggrin.gif>

and also i wouldnt do the KLZE swap. reason being: i have 2 friends with probe GTs, one is KLZE swapped, manual trans. the other is auto, more milage, and has a 50 shot Zex kit. they run even.

Celica or MR2

Black 1996 Celica GT ConvertibleFor SaleAlpine Silver Lexus GS300
Speed 300Z
Speed with Cornering MR2
A Little bit of speed with Kick ass cornering Celica.

if i where you i love the corners so id go with the Celica. but MR2 Turbos are rare and wonderful cars.
MR2s handle a hell of alot better then celicas unfortunatly... Mid engine, 50/50 weight distrobution... just dont get her sideways and she'll treat you real nice.

not saying the celica handles bad or anything, its by far the best handling FWD car ive been in.

the 2 cars i wanted when i was choosing was a 300zx and a celica. and i chose the celica >biggrin.gif>
kinda OT, GRM did an article not too long ago comparing; 300ZX, RX7, Vette Z06, Viper, MR2t, supra, and i think theres one im forgetting... anyways best race car price independant (meaning no budget) was the viper, best race car price dependant (meaning best bang for the buck) was the MR2t, and the best everyday exotic car was the 300ZX. just thought id throw that out there.

Not only does the Mr2 outhandle anything FR, but it also will out-power it easily..

Don't forget, with a stock turbo, lots of mods will get you far (HP-wise)...DP, raised boost, IC's etc etc.

An avg. Mr2-t costs $7-8k. A Celica GT 5-speed is like $5-6k. So they aren't that far apart yet one is much more fun. I don't see how $2k can kill your finances, take out a loan and get the Mr2-T!
i have rode in a 300zx,supra, mr2t and i really liked the mr2t because its so small compared to the other cars. the 300zx had upgraded twins and was really fast the supra was a BPU+ car and was ultra fast. the mr2t was running 16 psi so it was fast also i just really liked the mr2t becasue of the size just my $.02
yea, the MR2t is an aquired taste, i LOVE the compact cars, naimly ones you can see right out over the hood in, and the MR2t just fits me perfect. if you dont feel safe driving a sardine box, or get clostrophobic easy, or just flat out dont like some of the people you have to drive around, id say the car isnt for you. plus insurance and the fact that it only seats 2 and has NO people or cargo room, are 3 reasons why someone would pick a celica over a MR2t anyday
