clunking noise - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #62047 7 posts Started by CelicaGTS94
Noticed it today when I was just cruising around town doing errands. At a low speed when I brake to a stop I hear a clunk that sounds like its underneath me. Or when I am just moving slowly in 2nd gear I can hear in go clunk, clunk, clunk ect. I also get a shake at high speeds which is random, its there sometimes and others its not. could this be a Axle, ball joint, control arm? Gonna have to take it off the road till I figure its safe to be drivin the thing!! Hope its not motor mounts or the tranny mount!

wheel bearing is my guess
well the clunking is irrelevent, on my way to work yesterday, the drivers side started to really clunk and bang, and I managed to make it to my parents place, then noticed someone had either tried to steel my rims or removed 4 lugnuts as a joke, damn near had the wheel come off on the highway!! So car is parked till I get locknuts, ordered them today!
ahh lol, thats dumb.. put those nuts back on and no more clunking?? smile.gif

well hope so, but the clunk originally came from the other wheel ( Passengers side) I checked the lugbuts there too they are fine, so not sure car is still parked. I should be back on the road this week. Then we will see if the Pass side still has a problem. The wheel that almost came off was the drivers side front. Still think a ball joint or something is bad on the other side though. wil have to wait and see!

On your break pads, there are clips. It sounds like one of these clips has come off / loosened. I had the same problem when i did my DS rotor & Pref. Pad conversion. It clunks in compliance with the revolution of the wheel, Yeah?

Act like your're doing a break job, (Yes, take them out) and re-set them into the caliper. Check the cilips for damage, And if needed, get some clip-clap grease from your local auto joint.
