Aftermarket Sunroof - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #61306 6 posts Started by KillerCelt
I just recently purchased my 1994 ST Sport Coupe and I absolutely love it. I had been searching for a 6th gen Celica for months and as soon as I found a good one, I jumped on it. The only thing that I wish my Celica had is a sunroof(and a spoiler, and power windows, and power locks, and was a manual...hmm one thing at a time). Now I am faced with the difficult dilema of whether or not to have an aftermarket sunroof installed.

Have any of you had an aftermarket sun or moonroof installed on your 6th gen. Celica? What are the cons to these aftermarket sunroofs? What are the chances of it leaking? How will it effect the structural integrity?

If I were to have this done, I plan on taking it to a local place that specializes in installing aftermarket sunroofs.

Thanks for any help and advice.
IMO, I would use those funds for other mod 1st

Thanks for the advice, but that doesn't help answer my question. However, I will keep that in mind.
I had an aftermarket sr on my Pathfinder a few years back. It was an '87 & I think the s/r was installed not long after - so it leaked. Turned out I was able to google the manufacturer and order a new gasket that went around the glass, and once i replaced it it worked great. Mine was just a pop-up moon roof though, it didn't actually slide open.

I think an aftermarket one is probably fine. You should inquire as to what kind of warranty they offer, I'd think any place decent would have a very good warranty against leakage. As for structural integrity, I really don't think it's a concern. The structure of the roof w/a factory sunroof isn't different than those without. Only the headliner is different where that's concerned.
Congrats on your new buy. smile.gif I was in your same shoes. Lookin' and lookin' and lookin' and then one day, I finally got it! It was nice to retire my 5th gen... But I'll always miss it.

I have heard some issues with leaks here 'n there but as Ms. Griff said, you should be alright as long as your buy quality. Check for reviews on Google for the product. There is probably quite a bit of them from users of other car forums.

I've been told mine is aftermarket, I have no idea as I got it that way at the dealer.

I've had no problems though, besides the motor possibly going out/being bad.
