clunk...clunk - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #61227 8 posts Started by BURNSJ2
hey guys got kind of a wierd one here. im getting the classic cv clunk when i go around a left turn. easy fix, replace left axle. DONE. noise prevails. i have no idea wat it could be. 2 brand new axles, wheel bearings with about 50000 miles, balljoints look good... any ideas?

suspension mods: tein drop, bilstien rear shocks, kyb front shocks, konig 17" 215/45 falkens.
I had a rear end clunk, my end links were worn.I replaced them..no rear clunk. =]
mine sounds like its coming from the right front. i looked up in the strut tower today and it looks like my tiens are wearing the mont plate boots more then normal. is there a wrong way to have the struts in the car? they look like theyre tilted too far back. but it could just be the way they are.

oh and one other thing, it seems to be a load created sound. i put the front end up on jack stands, started the car, and it sounded perfect. i hit the brakes, turned both directions, nothing. so it seems like it shold be caused by the struts but i cant tell.

Did you just do the suspension mods recently? You might've messed up your strut mount bearing while putting everything back together (re-using your stock strut mounts and such).
Ive had the mods done for about 4 months. no sounds up until this week. i brought it in to my mechanic and he seems to think its the right wheel bearing so im gonna replace that in the morning, let you guys know how it all works out.
UPDATE!

I put the new wheel bearing in today. what a nightmare. it ended up that the bearing was so bad that it chewed up the hub. so after a trip to toyota for a seal kit, hub, and the bearing, $250 later, everything sounds good. i also noticed that after i put the new shocks on with the teins, my rear sway bar end links were loose. tightened those and the car feels a lot better at the end of the day.
nice to see you're back on track smile.gif

i was watching this thread and waiting to see what happened..i'm getting clunking but everything i've done/checked has been alright. the wheel bearing is something i havent had a problem with on the driver side so i will check it out. smile.gif

Pandelica 2.0 in progress.
yeah ive had wheel bearings go out on other cars and they all make the same sound. but this was like nothing ive ever heard before. i never would have thought of a wheel bearing but after looking under the car and checking everything a few times i had no other options left.
