hey did anyone see the 6th gen celica in super street about a month ago? it said it had a veilside 6 speed transmition. does anyone know where i can get ahold of one?
6 speed transmition - 6G Celicas Forums
Awhile back that was talked about on here...and it was pretty much concluded that they meant the veilside shift knob had a 6speed shift pattern on it. >

EDIT- But speaking of which. i really want a 6spd tranny...in 5th gear i hit like 3.5-4k on the tach when i go about 70-75 on the highway. Im sure it eats up gas pretty bad, and when i go even faster i feel like i would run out of gear at about 100. >

3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting.
If you got the ST, you can pull out your gearbox and replace it with the 6 speed gearbox from the 7th gen celica
One of the only times i'm glad i bought an ST...

I heard HKS makes a 6spd tranny. I have yet to find it.
does anybody know where i could get one and how much a 7th gen gearbox would cost
I don't know, but I'd just go to a Toyota dealership where no one knows you and ask about getting a replacement gearbox for your 6 speed 7th gen. Haha.
who said that a 2zzge tranny would bolt up to a 7afe?
i know that all 4age tranny's bolt up and that one model 4ag(z)e engine came with a 6speed tranny

I was just telling him how he could get one. I never said if it would work or not.
Has anyone put the 7th gen tranny in a 6th gen ST yet? I do a ton of highway driving and would love to have an extra gear. If the gear ratios were changed and made wider wouldnt it make my car slower than it already is though? As we all know the ST cant afford to lose much power.

lol....
there is no way it would work. However, the 4age black top 6spd will work on an ST. Good luck doing it though.

Are you sure? I had no idea they were rwd...

The Black Top 20v transmission is FWD...I don't think they would go from a FWD Silver Top and drastically change the drivetrain to RWD with the Black Top.
You are probably thinking of the older Corollas (AE86) with the 4AGE and RWD.

um... even tho it is RWD, it should still work with some modification. i mean look at all the guys running around with 3sgte's that have Mr2 tranny's. mr2 = RWD. to my knowledge that should work, but u need some modification to it. i believe u take one part off of the tranny and put that same part except from your original tranny on it and it works. of course its not as simple as what i just said, but from the GT comparison, it should work on an ST.
EDIT: or maybe it isnt RWD, either way it should work w/ slight mods.

Apparently nobody read/believes what I posted earlier. The 6 spd Transmission found on the AE111 Black Top 4AGE 20v is freakin' FRONT WHEEL DRIVE! And that transmission only came with the Blacktop 20v (read not 4AGZE). Hell if anyone doubts me check out Jarco and give them a call since they have 3 Black Top clips with 6 spd trannys.
BTW: if anyone is interested in a AE101 4AGZE front clip, Jarco has one with 63k miles for $1995
And about the MR2. If you consider where the engine is located and how it is set up you will realize it is much like a FWD Transverse mounted engine, but only in the rear. The only person that I know of that has used the MR2 tranny with a 3SGTE is Dirty.

ok i gotta question willl the 7afe tranny with the 6speed gearbox work with the 3sgte, as in being able to handle the hp???? or can i get a rebuild kit to strieghten it
they make a 7afe 6-speed tranny?
no but if you read the rest of this thread youd know what im talking about
The 7AFE never came with a 6 spd transmission. The 4AGE 20v Blacktop engine comes with the 6 spd.
As far as putting an A-series transmission on to an S-series engine (read 3SGTE), I don't think it would work.
I'm not even sure what you mean.

for most american pwoer cars ie mustang, camero.... they make tranny rebuild kits to stieghten there trannys
there is always the custom route... but that's up there price wise with the formentioned 2jz swap... A new performance tranny is what... 7kish? Just get what you need and be happy.
at takakaira.com, they listed an hks 6spd manual tranny for like $6,000. im not sure what all of the applications are but i know they make a 3sge tranny.
btw, has anybody ordered from takakaira. im interested in some of their parts but I dont know anything about them. are they a pain in the ass to deal with because of their location?

My dear... Like i sat, the 7th generation gearbox wil fit the 7afe perfectly.
If you go to your toyota dealer and let them look up the tranny numbers, they are the same.
The G6 TOYOTA COROLLA '97 - '99 olso has the same tranny and also wil fit the 7afe motor.
The 6-speed tranny is no overdrive ( the 6th gear is the same as the 5th gear in the 5-speed tranny), it does not increse horsepower and will handel the same as the 5-speed tranny.
But it's faster shifting and you can say, ive got a 6-speed!!!
