I just installed a short ram intake for my st (i bought the tubing from a guy on here) and when i turned the car on it started making a loud whooshy tin noise, almost like there was a leak but i went back and tightened the clamps twice. any ideas as to what might be wrong?

Yeah, sounds like air being sucked in, im pretty sure thats what its supposed to sound like.

it;s fine dude. you will find it's normally on overrun or on start up. i wouldnt worry

I could be wrong. But the easy way to find out is to go out, pop the hood, and try to pinpoint the sound. If its coming from the SRI then its then intake. All your hearing is air being rushed in. Thats assuming youve had no prior problems prior to installing the SRI.

Yeah, that's pretty much what it sounds like. I guess i was expecting something nicer. Does anyone know if the weapon-r dragon intake sounds less "tin-e"? Thanks for the help guys, and the video

EDIT: For some reason, unbeknownst to me, the metalish sound in idle has gone away and only pokes its head out around 1200 rpm's, i also took it on a test drive and it sounds great. no problems anymore, thanks again for the help everyone

Not too sure....maybe use a more restrictive filter? But that would almost defeat the purpose. If you want something that sounds a little better, why not install a CAI? But really, thats pretty much how they sound. Have fun with it, im sure that you'll get used to it. I hardly notice mine anymore.

indeed....CAI is more effective top end, and not as noisy. SRI sucks like a $5 whore on happy hour.

I was debating that, but i decided to go with the short ram because i was a little iffy with water getting into it, my mechanic seemed pretty adament about that when i asked his opinion. i just didnt want it to sound trashy, but it osunds good now, thanks again

I agree with the water issue, but I think they make a bypass of sorts for that reason...lemme check. I know that AEM makes one, and Injen makes a filter wrap, that is supposed to be water repellent (not water proof). But mainly the thing i read about a lot is that a CAI is fine when it rains (one guy in maine said he had to oil his twice a winter though), just dont drive into any still standing water (the cone has to be submerged for it to hydro-lock). For me, since I live in texas, it would be a good idea, but do I really want to have to remove the bumper each time I want to service a filter? PRobly not. But if your happy with the SRI, stick with it.

Yeah the sound in the video is right... except when u shift, let the clutch engage before you put your right foot to the floor or u get a stupid BOOOOOOWARRRRRRRRRRRRRRR of grinded clutch lol
