Changing Cigarette Lighter Bulb to LED - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #60347 11 posts Started by jophish
So i've removed the bulb from the little mount thing without any hassle, but when i've gone to test which way i should put the LED, I find that it will only light up for a few seconds before i goes dim and eventually dies...i've killed two LED's this way just to make sure that the first one wasn't faulty, and my best guess as to the solution is that i need to put a resistor in there with the LED. Anybody done this before?

you need the resistor for that one or buy a pre wired led/resistor thats what i did but ive taken it out now for start button
a pic when it was in
yes you do need a resistor. put two or three leds in so that it shines evenly all around. i did with mine, a friend help me out.

im having problems with this. can any1 help ive tried removing the bulb with no luck too. any tips for that

also does this take a 3mm led or does it take 74 led? ive read on other posts that it takes a 74? can sum1 clarify
It takes something smaller than a 74 I believe, mine seemed much smaller than a 74 at least. The bulb also was not removable from it's base, it had a plastic twist-lock base, I believe.

putting an led there is a fire hazzard. i took mine of, plastic melts, and burns pretty quick

Why fire hazard? A tiny led cant be that dangerous? And if it gets too much voltage, it just dont work anymore.
if you smoke and if you use lighter, the heat from the lighter can cause the led to heat and melt.

not exactly something ill risk my celi for. Now if you are going to use it for chargers, no biggie.

just throw the lighter away.... laugh.gif

This theory has not been proven, and surely nobody wants too. wink.gif

Hmm, why would the led melt when its hotter?
have you tried to put a plastic tab next to the red hot lighter. It kind of melts. The LED is not made to stand those temps.
