Seat Pattern? Matching Fabric? Foam Grafting? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #59314 11 posts Started by dutchboy
Just wondered if any one who's re-upholstered their seats traced the pieces out and scanned them to save the patterns. My Driver bolster is worn out, spewing foam.

I think the fabric is intact enough to make a pattern though.

Has anybody grafted new foam onto their old seat bolster? What kind did you use and where to look? There aren't very many junk yards around here, so need something readily available at chain type stores/ fabric shops. Did I mention cheap?

Anyone found a good match for the bolster fabric(tan)? If I can get away with it, I'd prefer to only redo the parts that need replacement, to save time with seam ripping and sewing.

Thanks
Vincent Doggy is selling new ones, I believe they're black though. You might wanna contact him; they're in the FS section.
i made patterns but theyre hard copy... i dont know what material to use for the foam tho, i was reaserching that myself, i would go to hobby lobby, thyve got lots of stuff!
Go to a fabric store and ask them what kind of fabric is suitable for auto upholstry. You need upholstry fabric.
if you got a spare seat, or dont need your passager for a while, you can always remove the seat, and buy cloth and take it to a seamstress and tell her you want 2 copys. Then you'll have PERFECT seat covers wink.gif

Have you tried taking the stock seat covers off? if they are the ones I'm thinking of they are held in place by 1000 little c shaped staple like things that will drive you mad before you get them disassembled [Then again I may be thinking of another seat from another car so if so - don't mind me]
I'm very interested to find to what it'll take to replace these covers.

bout 60-80 + supplys. Not to mention a massive headace trying to take the tight ass covers off (yes, w/ the staples) and then put em back on, and insert 1000 more staples wink.gif

Custom trim, not easy, but damn good looking wink.gif

IDk about the foam though. Just goto hobby-lobby or Michaels... Fcuking tear out all the foam that's in there and replace it with memory foam biggrin.gif FTMFW!!

Maybe just a thin layer of memory foam on top of the stock foam, so it's firm enough! Yet cradles thy ass! biggrin.gif
haha i worked for a moving company on the side and i was gunna add memory foam fro some of the matreses we had laying around... im gunna do that to my next car... but the staples are called "hog rings" and theyre relatively easy to do if u have the right tool....
I pulled all the fabric rings out with pliers, being careful not to damage the fabric and then after cleaning the fabric in the washing machine (yes it worked great and didn't damage the rods at all) put everything back together using zip ties. Holds it perfectly in place like stock except if i need to take back apart it will be much easier.
