Hey, so my 94 St is havin a small electrical issue. My Open Door light stays on 24/7. Even with car off and both doors shut. I checked both sensors and did everything I can to stop it...but the light stays on. Is there any way to override this. Possible a wire to cut or a fuse to pull?

Did you check the boot aswell. Or there is a switch on the interior light unit so it stays on all the time.

this wouldn't solve the problem, but you can stop that light from being on by pulling the bulb.

probably your sensor/switch does not work anymore. you need to pull both out and try to disconect them see waht happens. that will drain your battery.

The sensors are just momentary switches, a simple close and open circuit. (diagram)


*The pinhead connects to the chasis thus acting as the neg terminal. The wire going from the bottom up to the latch is from the bulb.

When you open the door the latch touches the black pinhead and this completes the whole circuit, when you close the door the latch is pushed away from the pinhead an this breaks-up the circuit. For it to stay on all the time means the wire that goes to the M switch must have touch the ground continously even after you push the latch away from the pinhead. So either the lilttle rod that pushes the latch away from the pinhead is broken or the wire goes to the M switch broke and felt off touching the chasis.

Take your sensor apart, and clean the contacts with some 200+ sandpaper. That may have a buildup on them, causing the sensor to read falsely.

If that doesn't work, you can take the fuse out. IIRC its a 10A fuse located in the drivers kickpanel labelled cabin. Pulling this fuse will also affectyour interior lights aswell.

He might needs to sand it if the light doesnt light up when he opens the door. His light is on all the time meaning the contacts still conduct.

Oops, my bad. I misread his post.

He should still be able to pull the fuse, as an alternative to pulling the bulbs though.

There is a simple fix for this but it's dangerous....and when I say it's dangerous I mean you can no longer leave your keys inside the car and shut the door and have the dummy features NOT lock the car on you.


But at any rate,these sensors are $30 from the dealership but what you can do is take the Black rubbery sensor with the push bolt and unbolt it with a 10mm socket and CUT the long wire that it's attached to from the inside where the white plastic is. This will turn off the sensor until you can get a new one.

Same thing happened to me in NY and even with my doors clocked when I'd try to lock my car with my car alarm they wouldn't ever close and it would KILL my battery.
