hey i just want to check my numbers if im wrong then im worried i cant do simple math
i calculated getting 18 mpg in the city on my stock 1997gt 5 spd/5sfe now i can drive a stick pretty well but every once in a while i buck a little...basically its just not as smooth as an auto....im wondering if anyone else can give me there numbers...i was thinking with toyota id be getting better even in city but its pretty stop and go which is kiling me with the 5 spd. however im going off to college where its mostly interstate so not so much a big deal anyway any numbers would be helpful...thanks
WHOA!! 18? N/A or Turbo'd?
B/c i'm N/A and i get closer to 30-35ish range... (but i could use a tune up)
You might want to look into replacing some plugs, filters, ect. Something is dramatically wrong with your car if your getting 18.

wow, my auto 5sfe gets better than that...I'd say it's time for a tune up. Also, how are you driving it? that can change it alot (heavy on the gas, taking turns fast..ext)

so i take em at 20 in 2nd, then instantly shift to 3rd after the turn
shift points at about 2,300 rpm, i get average 34 mpg

I'd hate to tell you what speeds and gears I take corners at half the time

Ask D-man - I think I heard him shart
Seriously tho - you're either not calculating correctly or your getting really bad gas mileage for a N/A car.

well you know.. i used to take them pretty fast, i mean i'd slide around nearly every corner.
then i went through 3 sets of tires last year and decided to uh.. slow down a bit

but i still have my moments
today i took a 35 mph turn around at..well started at 40, then ended it close to 65. understeering like no tomorrow, i think i had the wheels turn 2-3 as far as i would of if i werent sliding.

Wow, I wish I was getting 30mpg. I guess I romp on my poor little 7A too much, and by too much I mean I can't stop. I usually only get around 25.

7A = 110HP (I think it was...dont quote me on that) you HAVE to romp on it... just to make it thru the green light... From a red light

i'm not much better though

25-28 on average.
When you "fill up" about how many gallons are you putting in it? i usually put in around 13 gallons with around 350 on the trip odometer... i cant really think of why that would matter, but then again i am very tired lol

well thats a start.
i'd get: plugs, wires, distributor and cap, both O2 sensors, fuel filter, PCV valve... run a can of sea foam in your next tank of gas tooo.
your getting horrible gas mileage. you may actually have a leak.

PCV valve is on your valce cover; it has a vacuum line that runs to the intake, too

I'm averaging 30 mpg, try to keep it below 3k RPM or at 3k on the highway
There's already a thread or six about this on here though. I predict the magic thread-closing wand of snapshot or manphibian soon

is it a 17 gallon tank...im gunna fill up and just reset the trip odometer so theres no chance of screw ups....apparently i just cant do math

....o well ill get it figured out correctly the guy i bought it from said he gets 30 or above so im prob wrong
^^^17 gallons? how'd you figure that out?
Last time I filled up I had exactly 1/4 of a tank left, looked at how many gallons I put in and did the math came up w/ about a 14 2/3 gallons total for the whole tank.

OMG you guys, it doesn't even matter how many gallons the tank is (it's just over 15, btw). Fill your car. Drive your car. Drive drive drive, then fill up again. Divide the # of miles driven by the # of gallons you put in at the second fill-up. That's your mileage.
Yes. The PCV valve is located on the right side of the valve cover by the 2200 emblem and the throttle bracket mount. It little hose is connected to the metal PCV valve. It is not the long hose that is by the 16valve part of the valve cover.
hmm...I find it intresting that some of you guys are getting 30-35mpg. I myself am getting about 22 city and I recently took a long drive all highway and got 28. Here is some info on what the EPA rating is...
Powertrain Options and Availability
Two dual-overhead-cam 4-cylinder engines powered Celicas in this generation: 1.8-liter for the ST, and 2.2-liter for the GT. The GT's engine rose from 130 to 135 horsepower for 1997. Either might have a 5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed automatic.

I got 31 MPG last fill-up, mostly highway miles. Thats with AC, although I use CC every time I hit the highway. I'm usually getting 28 though
