So my battery light came on this morning. It would flash as the signals go off, every time I brake, etc.

I took my alternator to go check it passed everything.

So I cleaned this wire up a bit and it went away, but the wire is pretty crispy and crusted. I'm cleaned it up until I source out another wire harness.

Any inputs, suggestions would help.

trace the wire back to where its clean and replace it, duh. looks like it got nasty and corroded...these things happen to cars that are 10+ years old, well 9 in your case.

iirc the alt wire runs pretty much from the battery, so its entirely possible that at some point some acid seeped out of the battery (comes out around the posts, pretty common actually) and wicked into the wires, seeped up into the wires and over time corroded them something nasty. this causes high resistance, so your alt is putting out some amps trying to charge the battery and run the car. resistance makes heat, heat cooks the wire more and makes things more crispy.

check your other battery cables as well.

That end isn't from battery acid, it's from old age.

However, one word of warning, It's a PITA to solder the alt wires, so you might want to consider replacing the entire wire. Make sure you use the same gauge [8?]. There's obviously 2 wires, not 1.
The wires runs down over your intake manifold and over the trans to the fuseblock by the battery.
It's got a ring terminal IIRC.

The two wires were different size gauge wires.

I used 4gag wires, and electrical tape.

It runs fine, until this weekend to pull another wiring harness.

There is no part # for just those wires, you have to buy the entire harness for that.

just replace the 2 wires, no need to buy the whole harness. it'll cost and arm/leg from the dealer and what you get from the junkyard wont be much better.

goto a place that sells large gauge copper strand wire and buy several feet, heck get some black while you're there. get a larger gauge than whats on there now and consider it an upgrade. if you run audio its one of the 'big 3'

A couple of things to think about before you get larger gauge.

1-It's not going to fit well in the harness [been there/done that]. You can easily run it outside of the harness as well, I just like the wires in the right places.
2-Make sure it will fit connectors that will fit the OEM locations. One ring terminal has to fit inside the fuse block, and I can't remember where the other end goes, but if it connects to a pin in a connector, you're not going to fit a larger gauge in the pin.

Every connection is a weakness for corrosion to exploit.
