s54 + power = blown up. - 6G Celicas Forums

you will be missed s54.
2nd gear is destroyed and the 3rd gear syncros are f'ed
i was hopping it would last into the fall though damn.
its making horrid sounds and im afraid to drive it because i dont want it locking up on me. it happened on my street and i coasted into the garage laughing id really like to throw in a another s54 till the winter.

Didn't you make a thread just like this before, and it turned out to be the clutch?

yeah. but this time every gear accelerates me but 2nd.. and its making noises that i'm not familiar with, and i'm familiar now with clutch failure.

OUCH THAT SUCKS... I PULLED A SUBURU OUTBACK ON TRADE AND THE THE TRANNY WAS SOO FED UP THAT EVERY GEAR WAS LIKE 1ST AND I COULDNT GO OVER 15 MPH AND THERE WAS A EGG SMELL WHEN I SHIFTED....

Turn off your caps btw.

Have you considered the e153 tranny?

I was waiting for this to happen so I can gauge whether or not to change out the S54 on my swap [sorry to use you as a guinea pig tongue.gif ].
Now seeing the results and the power you had to put down for the length of time you did - I'd say my S54 is good for quite a bit more abuse.
You need to put your "I break things" sig back up wink.gif

Pry out your gearbox, I've heard that in the s54 trannies, our 2nd gear was made very horribly and crappily. Maybe just need to change that one particular gear? and get new synchros?...i dunno, i'm no mech.
