i'm in the market for a crotch rocket and i really have no idea what to be looking for. i don't want to kill myself and start with a 600cc but i mean i've heard both sides on what to get. i'm just looking for your guy's opinion.

suzuki makes like a 450 i believe from 2000 that looks pretty modern, but is still a low disp. bike.

i think it all comes out to your maturity. get a liter bike and not screw around on it and you should be ok. there is a weight difference so handling will be majorly changed from a small bike to a big one, but its all in how you get used to it.

either way you choose, be responsible and have fun!

ive had honda's kawasaki's yamaha's and triumph's (my fav) so i cant comment too much on suzuki's, but i hear the gsx line are popular 600, 750 and 1000 and i hear they also share similar frames to the triumph's, which i find to be a very well finished bike.

the ninja 250 is a small 250 cc bike, pretty much the most recomended bike for beginers.


however, almost everyone upgrades to a bigger bike soon after.

I sugest the suzuki gs500 simple because its light, less then 600cc. pretty much its small enough for a beginer but large enough where you dont really need to upgrade.

GS is blah

get a Ninja 250 its ALL you need for starting to ride, then you can flip it later for pretty much what you paid. This is the bike to learn how to ride on, get experience and practicality.

Yamaha YZF600R - god thats a sexy bike

i prefer the looks of the ninja and that yamaha to alot of bikes, i just like the full 'ferring' look. but as jason said i could just buy one for that suzuki ^.

if you're over say 20... then id start with something a bit larger than a 250cc. i regularly ride a 600 and it gets old at times cuz i used to rock an r1.

i say to get a suzuki, because it appears that they have one of the larger aftermarkets for the smaller bikes.

7 months....holla.....id go for a hyabusa...if your gonna kill yourself you might as well do it the right way ..in all honesty go for a 600...i prefer suzukis because they are very reliable...last for a lot of years and like stated above they have a lot of upgrades for them

qft. my bro just bought a 08 250r. looks much better than the old 250r. the 250r will do 0-60 in 5.7 and the quarter in 14.5. not slow by any means. and its a light, great handling bike. starting with a 600 or liter bike is stupid and you will wish you hadnt. you cant take those bikes even close to its limits on the street. if youre new to riding youre just going to hurt yourself and get into trouble. i myself am picking up a used 500r this week, mainly because im getting a good deal on it. still a great starter bike to build confidence, but has more room to grow with it as you become a more proficient rider. i recommend a getting a used bike as well because you will drop it if youre just learning to ride and its cheaper.

edit- also make sure to take the msf course before buying a bike. youll learn a lot and you get a discount on insurance

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

well i am thinking i should stay away from 600's for safety/ handling sake. i think i'd be ok on a 250 but i'd probably take a 500 more eagerly. its kind of sad but i can't get a bike untill i sell the celi. and i realllllly want a bike for the summer

im workign on getting a katana 600 for my first bike. its a sport touring so the insurance is alot lower and it still looks like a sport bike just a little bigger wich is great for me since im 6'3 260 pds. you might want to look at the sport touring class of bikes for cheeper insurance, they are pretty close to a sport bike but some are half fairing bikes which i kinda of like more hope it helps and good luck

awesome Im glad you picked a sensable great starter! A good head on your shoulders is the #1 most important factor of having a bike. But watch what you say about girls and bikes, there are a few that are in the bike group i hang out with that wipe the floor with the boys!

i found a used '04 one for 1900 that im' looking into.
i can talk him down a tad too. its exciting!
however, again the celi has got to go first

i see alot more girls riding sport bikes than driving modded cars around here. its really cool--and sexy! haha

Wouldn't recommend a 250 after about 4 weeks you realize how much they are like a weed wacker and you'll want more power....no offense you the 250 guys but been there done that.

you're probably right i will want more power, but i dont need it. i've had a relative die from a motorcycle wreck, i might abuse that power. just like alot of people with high HP cars *cough* Hogan's supra *cough*

get it right its a GSXR-750 there is no "z" save that gayness for Kawi.

you just need to ride the right 750...mine is pretty darned fast....MUCH faster than a 600
