didnt see this in the feasible engine swap sticky...well i live kali so i was thinkin...is this the only swap that would be legal?? i think when u do a swap here in kali it has to be the same year engine or newer. I would like the power of a inline 6 in my car and then just build from there. Don't know how much the engine and everything would cost...would it be about the same cost as the 3sgte swap or alot more??....just wanna stay street legal here in kali...well THANKS!!
its the only swap that is 100% smog legal.

the best thing you can do it talk to one of the guys at the test place and see what you can work out.

all jdm engines run clean, its just that they fail the visual test.

1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition@gt4.wrc on Instagram
there is a guy on celica. net that did it. I dont remember what his screen name is but check the forums over there.
a USDM 3sgte would also be smog legal, and i've heard you can get an EGR on a JDM engine, it just wouldnt work. and r u sure the V6 would fit in the celi's engine bay? i would think it would be too wide, but im not sure. plus dude, that V6 still has an economy head on it. and i would think u could still get more power out of the 3sgte, but hey it'd be cool to have the swap.
the guy on celica.net says that it fits perfect. he has about 220hp too. and no hassles on a turboed engine.
you guys think it would be any cheaper than a 3sgte swap??
ask around on celica.net a few months ago it was a popular topic among the site, it has been done to an mr-2 and a 5th gen celi on the site, if you can't find the person ask evilspeedtoe, he knows about the swap and could prolly give you the most info if you can't find the guy w/ the 5th gen
I have researched this one pretty well. Here is the best thread on the v6 install into the 5th gen celica:

It is very tight in the engine bay, but does fit. I have decided against it as it may comprimise the car in a front end crash. As for power, there is a TRD supercharger that will bolt up to that engine with no mods (nuns 5.5PSI of boost). The engine has more potential than most people here give it credit for. You can check out that engine's potential at:

http://www.zer0.info/solaraguy/

There are two versions of that engine, the VVT version and the non VVT. The VVT engine will not take the supercharger (at least as a bolt on mod) If you snag The highlander or RX300 version, you get 220 HP stock!!! With the non-vvt version, you only get up to 200 HP, the ratings varied by model. However the superchager can be added to the engine for more power than the VVT version. There are overdrive pulleys for the supercharger to increase the boost.

The one issue with this swap is the transmission, It would be dumb to use anything other than the solara 5 speed (V6) transmission, but while rare, they are not to hard to find.

Hope this helps
I think the prob about crashing is not a big deal since most people who would go through w/ this project would be using it for racing/auto x purposes. anyways if someone was to daily drive a setup like that, I'm sure they would be more than extra careful to look out for wrecks.

You can drop a 350 into S10's so why not drop a v6 into a celica? No one would want to touch you once they hear that lower exhaust note, becuz they know it's not a weed-eater motor

6's in FWD cars are not bad and are actually pretty fast, I know of many Lumina's and Grand Prix's that can smoke the pants off of celicas
I emailed the guy who did it b/c I want to do this swap. he said to stay away from the VVTi engines becuse it is more challenge. I looked up engine and tranny prices and it looks like it would be around 3K for both the engine and tranny. Not too bad IMO. Also, he suggests getting a 97+ year engine and tranny. He said he had to lower it a couple of inches to get teh hood to close, but nothing difficult. he did his in a 5th, so Im not sure if the hood clearance is different b/w the 5th & 6th...
less weight
I have that issue of Turbo where they swapped the V-6 into an MR-2 and yes they did say it was pretty much the same size and weight as the 3sgte. I had a 3.1 V6 Beretta and it was VERY fast for a compact car. It had a lot of torque.
