Sorry I thought the link would work...I'm talking about the strut boots.

As for the mounts you shouldn't need new ones. The struts will look identical for the front and back. The differnece will be the part that the spring sits on. That part will be smaller for the rear (if I remember) and bigger for the fronts.

well, mine are torn, so I think it's time for new boots smile.gif. The part the spring sits on is already part of the strut, isn't it? the "disk" (don't know the real term).

Yeah it is already attached. I dont know the term either but what i was trying to get at was that piece should be a different size for the fronts compared to the backs. This is because the springs are bigger in circumference when comparing the fronts and rears. You will probably need the rubber piece that sits on this part aswell. Yours will probably be really worn.

Only place that will have them is the dealer. If I remember correctly mine were like 15 a piece and they had to special order them.

K-Weaver, do you know where you got you're bump stops from? I emailed KYB and they told me I have to go to one of the distributers, but they also said the bump stops come WITH boots (for the front), if that's the case, that kind of sucks cause I already ordered 4 boots off of IRP and I'm not sure if they include the bump stops w/ them.

Okay, rather than open up a new thread, I am going to flat out ask.

I have a 95' GT. I thought I ordered what I needed when I was on eBay, but my fronts ended up being shocks cartridges, and rear struts (I don't know any better, my first time doing this $#!t). Anyways, I wanted to ask you all am I going to need to get front struts? How easy is it to get struts from a local place such as Autozone or something? The reason why I ask is that I do not want to get front struts if I do not need them. Though I want to know my options if no one can tell me for sure, because I am going to have Jeff install these and he threw it out there about the front struts, so that is why I am asking.

First of all, I'd appreciate you not jacking my thread.

but since I'm a nice guy I'll see if I can help you out on this. Did the description on ebay say they were all sealed struts? Also you need to look on you're car to see if you just have cartrages or if all of them are sealed. If they are not all sealed, you should be fine, If they are you're only option is to get sealed ones. I just got all four sealed to be safe.

Oh okay, thanks. Sorry about the jacking for a moment, but it would really just cut down on threads with reposts and such if one would just ask one question regarding the same thing. I appreciate your help. I will try and see about my struts. Thanks.

my car the front were cartriges, the back were sealed.

I replaced all four strutrs from importrp. I did not want to fiddle around with cartridges. only a couple bucks more.

If you have sealed and they sent you the cartridges, you will need strut housings. no biggie. let us know well find you some.

I would go straight to the toyota dealer. You can buy all the parts seperate. The rubber piece that goes on the strut seat is called the "lower insulator". There is another piece that goes on the shock part of the strut (the chrome part) and this is called the "bumper". I reused my bumpers and just bought the insulators and since you already have the boots (should be the covers right? to protect the shock?) all you should really need are the insulators.

For real? You can find me some? I already got the dang cartridges for the front though, what good are these to me now? Okay how much am I looking at for the front struts then? Because I am trying to put money aside to buy these damn projector headlights, but things keep coming up. Oh well, lesson learned I guess. Okay, so how can I find these front struts?

I got mine from importrp.com and they were around ~ $55.00 each. You will most likely need other parts though that you can only get from the dealer...You can actually read the post you are posting in and find out most of what you are asking.

yeah, hoping to get the boots today or tomorrow sometime. So you mean that the bump stops and insulators are the same, right? Also I'll have to check and see if the bumpers are good, should be.

usually the bump stops are fine, unless your old struts were blown and your car bounced up and down alot causeing the bump stops to actually get used.

when you say your boots are torn, I would assume you're talking about the top mounts. The top mounts have a accoridan type boot that hangs down to protect the sturts from dirt/debris. They run about $70-$80 each from the dealer FYI, just use black duct tape on yours if they're torn, no one will see them anyway wink.gif

ok, good to know so I won't go buying all new bump stops smile.gif

Actually by boots, I'm referring to the covers toward the bottom of the strut and they are already ordered/ hopefully on the way anyway, so those are just going to be completely replaced. Thnks for the tip though.

WOOHOO, just ordered my sealed kyb's yeee! Realized that I had to select my vehicle as 1995 because the 94' models are only rebuildables in the front. Can't wait til these arrive so i can install on my tein springs and cusco mounts all at once, tired of being made fun of having a "rally car". LOL, anyway the prices look quite reasonable on importrp.com, i'm considering ordering some EBC yellow brake pads and some brembo rotors next.
Hope they come well packaged...and hope the Customs charges doesn't kill since it's being shipped to Canada, unless they take care of it for me.

OK, so the struts are finally on the car now..I actually ended up paying to have it done b/c I got a little frustrated w/ them when I tried it tongue.gif But I think there might be a problem. On my ride home it kind of fet like I could feel the bumps even more so than with the old struts that were shot. So I'm wondering, does it take some time for them to start giving a good ride? or are GR2's just stiffer, and there for a little roupher on the roads than OEM? (yes I know they are OEM replacememnts). Mabey possible they got the front's and rears mixed up..? Mabe I just havn't had enouph time driving with them on b/c it's only 2 miles from my house to the shop. but you're guys' inputs are appreciated.

did you change springs?

you will feel a change in the suspension, cause the shocks are working. prolly before your old shocks were not doing its job and your car bounced more. there is no way they can confuse the location front/rear.

go check and see if they installed the ones you bought wink.gif . any shock thats new will feel stiff compared to old one.

wait till you drop the car with teins and put 17 with 215/45. then youll fell the road laugh.gif laugh.gif . sometimes my back kills me. but the handling is so lovely...

Aw, that's too bad you didn't just wait for the springs and then install your shocks because now you have to take them all back out. Hopefully they won't be such a pain for you to take out but try changing your bushings. Those always make the difference in ride comfort.
