Powder Coat Curing Process - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #56684 17 posts Started by JoKeRkId613
I'm thinking about getting a powder coating gun to work on my own little car paint projects. Reason being is people charge too much to powder coat brake calipers and for that, i might as well buy my own gun and work on my stuff and maybe even make a little cash on the side working on stuff for my friends.

Anyway, I know they sell ovens specifically for powder coating, but would it be okay to use my kitchen oven to cure the parts? Sounds like it would work but I don't want my family to die from powder paint poisoning or something. Thoughts?
yes it works. but have your windows in your house open. or even better haul your oven out on the deck haha
you'll need a fairly big oven.. i mean, don't your parts need to be hung? not laid on a tray or anything of the sort?

ya so it will only allow you to do so many parts at a time. it's not like you can stick a whole rim in there...well maybe if you worked at a pizza joint you could.
i know it works. i want to know if it's safe. will my someone die or be poisoned if they cook a pizza after i cooked my brake calipers?i think i can find a way to hang the pieces.
whats the worse that could happen tongue.gif
i think you'd be ok. just make sure you clean the oven out after.

if it were dangerous i'm sure some one would have tried it and died and we would all know that its a bad idea.

Kinda hard to report you're stupidity if you're dead isn't it?
BTW - No offense to the OP - wasn't calling you stupid.

yea, thats definetly NOT something you do in a oven you use to cool in.
lots of toxins and bad stuff in the curing process get released into the air, and will remain in the oven once its used.

hit up your local used paper, or craigslist or whatever, and pick up a cheap used one, and throw it out in the garage or somthing.
ohh and make sure its electric.
you dont wanna be doing that in a gas oven.

what do you guys think about using a toaster oven? lol. im looking at a few and they heat up for more than 450 degrees which is good cuz i only need it to go up to 400.

just checking my options cuz craigslist was no good and i dont use newspapers. i hate touching them.
the oven should be big enough to paint the calipers.

Pandelica 2.0 in progress.
smells to me like a caliper......
A big electric toster oven would be perfect.
You definitely dont want to do this in an oven you plan to cook food in.
