If your question is about swinging the calipers out of the way to put in pads, then to loosen the bolt you have to turn it counterclockwise. I hope I'm getting your question right.
good luck.
Also if the bolt is stuck or hard to turn, use PB blaster on it or a wrench with good leverage.

3sgteing...burns twice as bright, lasts half as long."The weight of the world is love. Under the burden of solitude, under the burden of dissatisfaction."-Allen Ginsberg-
If removing caliper......bleed brakes...otherwise you would have to put pressure back to the valve that pushes the circular tube enforcing the brakes to bite the rotor......I always use a c-clamp to push it in to easily put the caliper back on....and then pump the brakes after installment....dunno but just might be me...
ehi counterclockwise was how i broke the attatchment LOL iunoo maybe it was just cheap... since it felt pretty thin

Fine you win. Yes you need a stronger attatchment.

with the socket on the bolt (behind the caliper) on the passenger side, pulling up tightens it.. you're supposed to pull down.

thank you. and i guess on the driver side is the opposite?

correct. no offense, but this is pretty basic stuff.. g/l with your install..

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
just wondering, did you break the ratchet? or the socket.. more likely the rotating end of the ratchet is what will shear right off from over-torquing. anyway, i hope you have a good branded ratchet that has lifetime warranty. and i hope you're not using a small 1/2" ratchet, you should be using at least a 3/4".

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
you mean a 3/8 not 3/4!
well sorry for being a noob..

but we all gotta start learning somewhere right?

its not like i can just out of nowhere know how to replace an engine or anything... i got learn and ask questions biggrin.gif

Very true.

IMO breaking things is one of the best ways to learn, makes it stick in your mind. smile.gif

I've got a lot of mistakes behind me on the trail. biggrin.gif

The way I always remembered was loosening is counterclockwise [facing what you're loosening] and tightening is clockwise.
