Topic #56107 17 posts Started by blckcelica95
So this is my spare ct 26 and today i noticed that it only says "toyota" on it. The one i have on my car says "toyota CT-26" Are there any differences between these turbos? Is this a jdm ct-26?
Here are pictures of the compressor and exhaust sides

It might be a CT20b or a single-entry Supra CT26.

Nope.
Its a norma ct26. If you look at the exhaust wheel, you should be able to clearly tell if its ceramic (jdm) or steal (usdm).

Whats the easiest way to tell if your ct26 is jdm or usdm without looking at the compressor wheel.

counting the studs. ct-26 has 6, ct20b has 7
you have a ct-26

Visit My Automotive & Tech Blog.
which is better or are they both the same, except the ammount of studs?
a ct-20b is the next step up after your ct-26....you'll be able to get more hp out of a ct-20b then your stock ct-26

Why would the housing not say CT-26 on it?

some don't, i thought the same thing with my ct-26. it just said toyota, went over to mr2oc to see what was up. they said its just something toyota did, pretty random explanation but w/e.

Ceramic shatters sometimes.
It's brittle, so if it get's a crack from something it can easily break apart.

Somewhat common with the ceramic turbos.
People run high[er] boost and they break.
Probably the main reason they weren't on the non JDM engines.
The ct26s are already limited on the exhaust side. When people run too much boost on them, the EGTs go sky high, and kill the ceramic exhaust wheel.
