Tire Size on 17 inch rims - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #55937 17 posts Started by SpoonR530
I was wondering what the largest tire I could fit on my 17 inch rims would be(stock suspension). I don't really want to lower it because of the snow but wanted to get rid of the gap i have with the low profile tires.
Thnx in advance

idk about largest but ive heard many good things about 225-45-17

ill actually be getting these myself very soon wink.gif
Bump.
Just did a whole lotta searching with out much luck. Right now im thinking 205 50 17 but still unsure. Any one got any advice or pics?
It actually depends, how wide? for 7" use 215 for 7.5" 225.

17x8 can accommodate 245/40/17s

If you have a 17x7 (most common) Go with a 225/50

I am thinking about a a 235/45 on a 17x8 wheel w/ 35mm offset, riding on stock suspension. Does anyone know if this setup would create any tire rub? Does anyone have pics who owns this setup, or pics of a 225/45 on a 17x8 wheel? Thanks...
sorry to but in on the thread but this may help someone...

YES! i have had that set up on three celicas now all with different suspension. here is the tire info:

rims-TSW Kyalami 17-8 (35c) Rims
tires-Kuhmo Ecsta ASX 225/45/17 Tires

red coupe=STOCK SUSPENSION = little to no rubbing.. would rub against the fender lightly when i hit a deep hole etc.

black hatch=Tien springs and KYB GR2 struts (Rubbed so much i needed to roll the inside lip of the fender)

black coupe=Current set-up= stock struts and TRD springs (rubs every now and then but not bad enough for me to roll the fenders anytime soon, just lightly touches the inside lip of the fender against the side wall on big bumps)

And these are of the black hatch with stock suspension and the next is after it was dropped (again Tien springs and KYB GR2's)

Thank you for those pics and information!! So, if I get 17x8 rims (w/ +35 offset), the only way to not have ANY rubbing would be to get a smaller tire than the 225/45-17? I didn't want a 40 aspect ratio, since I don't want that harsh of a ride. So, I guess a 215/45-17 would be the best for me? It seems like the tire would be quite stretched, though, correct?

I had 215/45s on my 17x8 with the same offset, stretch was not bad at all. It didn't bother me much since I was always careful with my wheels.. also I have no idea how that fitment is with the 6gc, I had mine on a 7gc.
I really liked my 225-45-17 tires on my 17x7 wheels when I had them. They never rubbed with Tein S-Tech springs and they filled up the fender wells pretty good.
i have 215/45 17's on a 17x8 and the stretch isn't that bad. I think you could go 225/45 17 with no problems. if its just for the winter and you are afraid of rubbing then get some coil spring spacers and throw them in there. it'll be a little stiffer ride but its better than tearing up tires and fender wells
im goin with a nice set of 235/50/r17's with spacers on the whip...stock suspension for now but soon to be lowered...possiably 245's but we'll have to see...dont tell me they wont fit..i'll make em biggrin.gif

45's can look good too if it is not too fat. I would get 45's if i had a big kit like TRD and then drop it low to compensate.
