just curious.. 4age 20v head on 3sgte? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #55573 21 posts Started by cjh4l22
pretty much as the topic and description state...
i know the 3sgte is a 2.0l 16v dohc turbo'd engine and i know most the specs.. is there a chance u could swap in a 4age 20v head? maybe bore out the head a bit? so it'd be a 3sgte 2.l 20v dohc turbo w/just the single throttle body? not the itb's used in the 20v.. too much work for those although w/great benefit... thanks everyone just curious..

I can't seem to look puzzled enough to express my emotion.

Anyway it may be possible if you have a machine shop in your backyard but putting the head for a 20V on the 3S really just won't work without massive fabrication. You'd bend valves faster than a stock minivan with a 150 shot of nos. (it happened)

same reason why you cant bolt a 7a trans to a 3sgte.

Ok Gladys, lets play house, you be the door and I'll shut you.
correct me if im wrong (im just a dumb kid) but its made to fit a whole different block family, its a little more understandable to fit a S-block head to a different S-block, but still not easy at all. it would be nice to do though...
ok sorry for insulting anyone in that. didn't mean to ask a 'stupid' question.. i was just curious.. i came up w/it today while i was driving. i just know that some ppl get better head flow w/20valves.. thats all. anywho, yea i didn't realize none of the coolant lines matched and it would require that much machining. well thanks for answering my question.

Good Idea but wrong way to go about it,
should look at getting a 4agze then putting the 20v head on it and turboing it.

Won't it be kinda tricky turboing an engine with vvt?

its cool man. you didnt insult anyone.
the 3s head probably outflows the 20v head by a long shot (im sure people will debate that).. but there is really no reason for a head swap on the 3s. you just upgrade the cams, intake manifold, and gears and you can flow as much power as you will ever need.

4agze isnt vvt

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

But when you put a vvt head on it... biggrin.gif Yes, its a little tricky but there are plenty of cars with vvt and a turbo (turboed mivec's, vtech's ect.)
Heheheheheheh....

BUT... the 4AGZE has basically the same rods/internals as a silvertop 20V... minus the pistons. Only a blacktop has different rods, but those rods are still plenty strong.

I bet the bore centers are different between the s-series and a-series blocks. That alone kills the idea.

Put a 20v head on a 7a block with a 1zz crank and 2zz rods, then put on some 4a pistons. It would take some machine work but you would get just shy of 2L.

It's not a stupid question if it sparks intellectual conversations and not mindless arguments. Anyways, it's an interesting idea, but yeah.....I'll have to agree with everybody, it's rather pointless.
