I just replaced my CV axle and took the rotors and pads off. Just realized they are totally worn and old. What should I get for replacements if I want something slotted and nice looking?

I've just installed some Black Diamond grooved discs, they look really nice, plus they are treated so they will not rust anywhere near as quickly as standard discs. I'd like to get some pictures up, but I work all the daylight hours at the moment, so will have to wait till Saturday.

I'm not looking to pay much, since I'm on a budget but I want something that is good quality, appealing and has some power. I hear drilled rotors are crap, due to manufacturers not doing it right. Is this correct? All I can find is one set of Brembo stock replacement brakes (w/o drilled and slotted), and ATE PremiumOne Slotted Rotors. Where besides tirerack can I get nice rotors and pads?

I have the brembo blanks and hawk hps pads from tire rack.

Pros:
Really good braking performance. Im impressed with them.

Cons: Lots of squealing and brake dust. I dont know how much of the squealing i can blame on the pads or not. I know im missing my anti rattle springs, and at least one of the shims that our cars come with stock.

i vote blank rotors and better pads. the more stopping power you have from a pad/rotor combo the faster your going to go through both and the more brake dust your going to get, so if you like your wheels clean... better to go with some ceramic ones. you lose stopping power, but dont get a whole lot of dust.

id like to get some bigger rotors to fill up my wheels, and them fab up some mounting bracket to a big calliper. i think it would be nice having enough power to lock up some wide tires doing 100. i lose the lock em up option above like 30 now =/

If you're going for cheap discs, don't go for drilled or grooved. If made on the cheap they can warp.

If you are looking for drilled and slotted rotors I recommend checking out racingbrake.com they have been in the business for over 20 years and produce a high quality product. I am currently using their rotors. I would purchase ceramic pads to lessen brake squeal. Good Luck! Photos are on my member profile

I got all four rotors and full pad set for 189 at brakeplanet.com. there shipping took a little longer but the rotors come with a lifetime warranty against cracking. had em on for about two months now and love em.

That's incredibly cheap ^. I assume they are plain discs?

nope, drilled and slotted. treated after drilling to prevent warping and cracking. full warranty against warp/cracks. really cheap price, the pads aren't the greatest but they will do until I need more and then I will put better pads.

Whichever rotors you go with, I would also recommend ceramic pads. I had them on my 4Runner and loved them, and will get them put on my celica pretty soon here. I did not experience any loss in stopping power, and yes, they're quieter, less dust, and will outlast most of the other compounds.

thanks for all your input, I decided to go with the brembo blanks and the ceramic pads that are base ceramic with a slight touch of organic for the quietness.
