7gc gt-s wheels! - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #54972 34 posts Started by 96bluevert
Well I was at a local custom car shop/dealership with some friends and noticed some stock 7th gen gt-s wheels that had been painted black. asked about them, and they said they'd sell them for $150 for all four wheels. They need a little TLC and new tires, but hey for 150, I figured it wasn't a bad deal. Heres a pic:(sorry for poor quality, I had to take it with my cell phone tongue.gif).

IPB Image

They have a little curb rash and need repainting, but the black should look good. One question though, can someone give me some info on how to refurbish these wheels..? I know I need to prep them, and sand them down, then I can paint. But what grit sand paper do I need? Also will tires be more expensive than the ones on my stock 6th gens?

HEY join the "i have gen.7 gts rims on my 6gc club"........lol

the tire i bought were falkens they were about $225 for 2 installation mounting & balancing with lifetime road assistance for the life of the tire.

it shouldn't be that much difference.

the stock tire size was 205/50/16 if your wondering.

but i would upgrade to 215/45/16......just a recommendation IMO should look better.

as for the sanding down i'm sure 80 grit then 120 grit then any grit in the 200's would do.

as for prepping i can just say keep it as oil free as possible.

primer.......thin coat of paint.......another thin......then thick but not to thick............then clear coat(s) you decide

use you instincts when painting. use good judgement when you decide if more paint is needed.

you can go cheap and some what good quality using duplicolor spray cans.

all in all its you that have to make the judgement.

really cant tell the quality here.......but if you look and the gen.7's i really need a drop.....lol

Thanks, so I guess the price is pretty much the same (just got some new all seasons on the stock 6th gens which now = my winter wheels smile.gif )

Do you still have a good amount of tread with those tires? cause I don't want to get ones that are too low profile, you know?

thanks for the paiinting advice, I know it's not complicated stuff, but hey want to do it right smile.gif

btw:your cars looking nice there, I'm probably also going to need a drop one of these days even with a little bigger wheels.

still need to get tires, but I'm in no hurry really cause the snow last week made me realise I should at least wait until Feb to put them on my car. I know you can't really tell much of a difference by the pictures, but up close, they look a whole lot better.

yea your car needed some rims...there gonna loog good on that vert...are they the same size as your GT rims? you might be able to take the tires off your gt wheels and throw them on your new ones??...post up some pics of them on there when you do get them on!

Thnks. yeah the the gts wheels are 16's my stocks are 15's so the tires wouldn't be interchangable, besides I want some low(ish) profile tires to make the wheels stand out more.

^^ no way not me i'm sticking to 205-50-16 cuz of the damn hawaii roads..........lol

i might go lower maybe 215-45-16 if anyone has that size

215/45/16 won't be too low profile but will look better on the wheel.

They do great on Houston's $hitty roads [major trucking center etc]. I sued to have them on my old 6GC with 215-45R16. That's still plenty of meat. I only paid $100 for mine iwth good Yokohama's on them. Just had to wait the guy out for a while.
I need to get me another set or at least 2 for drag racing at the track. biggrin.gif
IMO the best looking stock swap rim ever for our cars.

Was looking at these center caps on ebay for the gt-s wheels since they didn't come with any. Are these the right ones? I'm pretty sure I just want to be possitive before I bid on them.

Also I'm getting some GoodYear Eagle GT tires for them today so they'll be on the car soon smile.gif

I don't think those are the right ones. I thought they were just circles that popped into the center of the wheel, if you know what I mean. like, istead of being the circle with the extra inch of plasitc before the prongs where it goes into the wheels. but I'm not 100%

anyone have a part number for the center caps?

ok, mabey I wont get them then. Besides, the wheels look better w/out the center caps smile.gif. They have tires and are now on the car, pics to come soon! question though...Since I don't have center caps, will the weather and elements of outside do any type of harm to the spark plugs in the center of the wheels?

spark plugs? never heard them called that. anyway, the threads or nut might rust up a bit, but it shouldn't be an issue until you go to change an axle and even then it shouldn't be that bad.

That's what they look like, spark plugs, not sure of the correct name though..but rust wouldn't stop them from functioning or slow down thier power output at all?

hub nut, axle spline, axle end. I guess whatever you want to call it. I'm pretty sure it won't do anything besides make it really hard to remove the nut. which doesn't really need to come off unless removing the axle.

alright, well the CV joints were just replaced last year, so I shouldn't need to replace the axles anytime soon. smile.gif thnks

again, it won't be impossible to get off, you'll just need to spray it with a bunch of PB blaster before taking a whack at it and it'll be really tight.

anyway, I think you should still get the center caps, just do some research to make sure you get the right ones.

Just won the center caps in the link I posted earlier. $27 shipped beats $17-$55 per cap (not including tax) anyday. smile.gif Just thought I'd share that, and I even have a little mod planned for the center caps when I get them that will add a nice touch to them wink.gif
