ok now i bought a pair of after market foglights and currently have them wired thru my headlights and they do ok then except when i encounter heavy patches of fog that make it impossible for me 2 c because of my headlights being on. so what i was wondering is if anyone had any ideas of how else i could wire these foglights so that they are able to come on without the headlights being on? and direct hookup to the battery is not an option cuz it just drains my battery. if u have any ideas either leave a reply or pm me

What about wiring it into your parking/running lights? They would still be on when your headlights are on, yet they could be on without having the headlights on..... just a thought though

i have mine powered at the ignition. so it goes off when i remove the key but i also have an inline swtich to shut it off when i don't need it.

I had them on my 4Runner, it's super easy to wire. Power it from the battery, run the other wire to a rocker panel switch inside the car through your firewall (you can get the switch at any auto parts shop like Autozone or NAPA, Pep Boys, etc.). That way you can control if they're on or off independently of the headlights or parking lights.

He doesn't want a direct hook up to his battery.... if he wants independent control, use my wiring into the parking/sidemarker lights, but attach a switch, that way he has independent control as well, but will also be safe..... if it's foggy to the point of not being able to see well it's good to at least have your running lights on for safety so other drivers behind or beside you can see you more clearly........ better safe than sorry

^^ This is somewhat of a direct hookup but its not going to drain your car, thats why you have a switch to turn it on and off just like Griffgirl said. Just make sure your switch controls the power.

There is absolutely no reason a direct hookup to the battery should drain it just as long as you remember to turn them off when you get out. Even then, it should take a LONG time to drain the battery. Or maybe hook them up to the ignition for a power source so they power off automatically? IDK
