New here, couple questions - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #54630 6 posts Started by Stogbob
First off I want to say I am really glad I found this site. I own a 94 GTS and I'm still learning A LOT about cars. I love this site so far, I learned lots just from the front page. Anyways, on to the questions...

1. I noticed that my car has two mufflers, one in the middle of the tailpipe and one on the end. I want to make my car have a nice deep sound to it. I've been thinking about upgrading to a 2.5" or 3" exhaust system but I don't have the money for that yet. Can I take out the middle muffler and put a different muffler on the end to make it sound better? Or do I have to replace the whole thing to be able to do that??

2. I was reading about the short ram intake (http://www.6gc.net/parts/13) and it sounds like something I want to buy(yes I know it doesn't add much HP, but it's supposed to sound and look good, and that's what I'm looking for). Would this be a good or a bad choice? Should I go with a different kind of intake, cold air maybe? And does anyone know where I can get it for fairly cheap? Most of the links to stores from the above link don't work frown.gif

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Edit: Also, my car has 196k km on it. It runs really really good, but I'm afraid it's starting to get too old.. Would it be a good idea to sell this car and get a 7th gen? Or do you find that with a bit of work 6th gen is better overall?? I really like the 6th gen and would rather keep it, but I need to know if it would be a good or bad idea haha.

i had a vid clip of my exhaust. its bigger piping from under the armrest area back to the rear. from under the armrest area forward is stock.

i have an apexi n1 tip and it has a deep non ricey sound.

I don't normally drive fast, but when I do its on a curvy section of this island

I'm definitely looking for something not so ricey. If I were to get something done like that, would a muffler shop do that or are they just going to try and get me to buy a whole new system? I would do it myself but I'm not sure that I will have the required stuff to be able to do it. Just wondering but did you get the tip online?

That sounds awesome. I've been searching everywhere for a cai for my car but could only find them for 7th gen. Thanks a ton for the help I'll definitely do that biggrin.gif. I can't believe how perfectly that fit in your car after just one cut haha that's awesome.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll go read stickies now tongue.gif
no i didnt get that tip online. i just thought that if i had a catback system it would too loud for taste so went half back. sounds nice.
