ok today i found out a lot about my engine,the old 7afe had around 210,xxx on it and the cooling system failed and the engine got fried.The cause was a little piece of wood that was blocking a T on the overflow of the radiator,the T had the bottom going into the overflow,the left side going to the hose tot eh radiator and the right side was blocked with a piece of wood,now my dad took out the piece of wood the engine would over heated,but then we got the factory L part but the engine overheated again.Now this is a different radiator than the stock one.The engine runs perfectly fine with the lil piece of wood in it..WTF,any ideas?

hmm u think thats wat it is?

u check your thermostat? changed your coolant? got a coolant system pressure check done? it could be alot of things. I would say either go out and buy a coolant tester *like a hydrometer for batteries, about $10*, check the coolant PH, if its low, replace it. If its fine, check your thermostat, alot of the time when thermostats go, its barely noticeable, other times, it causes big problems. And last but not least, pressure check. They will pressurize your entire system and see if there is any change in pressure. Also when this test is done they check the cap too. IE if you got a bad rad, leak, crack in your block, problem with flow.

Theres alot of things that may be causing your overheating, but alot of simple ways to solve it. Worst comes to worst, you replace your engine and spend $300 on a new one.

ya the engine is running like a top right now with the wood,its got 70K and running fine,i have changed that coolant before,i guess i should pressure check everything,thanks valo

from the arrows it looks like you're blocking the overflow with the bit of wood, if holding the pressure in the system fixes it then that means that the rad cap isnt holding the pressure like it should be. try a new cap, its cheap.

but when we put the L on it over heated...

can you put up a more clear explanation or diagram of where the wood is put and what its doing? and what is this L you speak of?

so the wood is plugging the line from the rad cap into the resivoir or plugging the overflow out of the resivoir? whichever it is, get a new radiator cap and go from there. its literally about $12.

wait...thats the difference between overheating and not?? I would just go out and get a new overflow cap/hose and see if that works. But yea, now it also sounds like you need a new rad cap.

ok heating as in,the temp gauge goes up and the water gets boiled
