Sprint springs not that great? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #53677 47 posts Started by bccentaur3
So today after class theres this turn that takes me on the on ramp to 610. Well the light was green so i figured I could push my car little around the corner. Corner was semi sharp. I lowered my car on sprint springs with kyg gr2s. Well I only took the turn at about 40 mph and I had body roll like theres no tomorrow. I have the stock gt front strut bar and i know that does crap, but how can i eliminate this body roll. I know suspension technique sway bars will do, but will i also need the front and rear strut bars with the sway bars? Or can I just do the sway bars and not have to worry about the strut bars?

i can take corners at 60 with ease with my sprints...i did update the sway bars tho and get a 3 point strut bar in the front
Well that doesn't help. j/k. what site would be good to check out for the best deal on the sway bars. So far racinglab has the cheapest price.

GR2s are OEM replacements, not a performance product.

Having only springs basically only helps in lowering the center of gravity.

thatsd true too, i do have bilsteins which are performance struts

Where did you find a set of Bilstein's at?

-Matt
a good set of struts are the factory sport suspensions... they're decent enough to take some cornering, imo. i also upgraded to RSR springs from stock (in the rear) and it barely did anything...
get a good front strut bar, it will make a huge difference.

I was going to say that if nobody else did.

If you want a performance Strut. Get the AGX's
Where can I find the Bilstein's and the AGX's? I've looked on Ebay and can't seem to find any.

-Matt
the cheapest you can get them check out ajusa.com

ill get the suspension tech sway bars first.

I just looked at them. They are much more expensive then the GR2's.

-Matt
yes, but from what others say well worth it. gr2s are oem replacement. I got gr2s because of the price and figured if i lowered the car and added sway bars and strut bars it will be just fine.

I had GR2's on my Supra, and I thought they were great. I had Eibach lowering springs, GR2 shocks, and a standard front strut bar. The car handled great for being 3500lbs.

I think the Celica will be fine with GR2's. No point on spending hundreds more on a daily.

-Matt
I guess you're right, but don't you ever get the need to just feel the what the car can do? its no fun if you cant take corners or accelerate better than stock right?

Upgrading the shocks/struts will definitely make it better then stock.

I got better handling when I upgraded to bigger wheels.

-Matt
I think the biggest wheel size i would ever go would be 16s regardless of the wheel gap.

No, I upgraded to 16's with a smaller tire from 15's with a bigger tire. The difference right there was pretty huge. Can't wait to see what new springs/shocks will do.

If I get enough Christmas $ I might even get some new sway bars.
thats when i'm waiting for sway bars. Christmas FTW.

What different sway bars are there, and where can I get them at?

-Matt

Cool, thanks.

BTW, I've never upgraded sway bars on a car, how hard is it to do?

-Matt
theres a how to in the sticky. I havent done it, but dealt with the end links. doesnt seem hard at all. Just gotta be able to get the rusted bolts off and get the end links off right and your good to go. I think that endlinks are the trickiest things ever, but thats just me.

Stock suspension = This

3 Wheeler goodness, well not really goodness.

To eleminate/reduce bodyroll. A good set of tires! grab sway bars.. Suspension Techniques seems to be the fav choice, your own selection of strut bars, moderately stiff springs [Higher spring rate] and adjustable struts.

You have to pay to play.

I recently added Hotchkis springs to my ride [00 GTS]

From - F: 136lb/in R:168lb/in
To - F: 164-242 lb/in 1.375" R: 1.875" 350-380 lb/in (progressive spring rate)

The ride is much stiffer and I can control the car much better at higher speeds. [Corners that is...]
Also, does anyone know if any companies make a floor bar for our cars? Similar to this:

IPB Image
Ebay is your best bet. Also those do NOTHING to improve handling, if you want it for looks, by all means go for it.
floor bars are the largest jokes ever.

better shocks would be a good bet but gr2 will suffice.

swaybars will be the best bang for the buck.

BINGO.

Also, front strut bars are more for looks, especially the EBay specials. They also tend to add to the cars natural understeer, which is something you want to lessen.
