Okay, update. smile.gif

Tune up is done. I'm told it is on a rolling plateform waiting on the lift to become available. Carl's got a st185 on there right now, so later next week this project will hopefully get rolling full force once its on the lift.

For pics of the progress, click: PICTURES

NOTE: First 12 pictures ARE NOT of the engine we're using. Those are of the bad engine we ordered and returned. Pics 13 on is the "real" engine.

Was the first engine salvaged from a sunken ship or something? jeez that thing looks rough. Second one looks MUCH better.. glad to see this is finally gettin rolling smile.gif

The first engine was from a front end collision where the battery acid got all over it, turning it over time into that ugly mess. A lot of the electrical stuff we wanted was in very poor shape as well.

just a question, how do you know it will fit, i know somebody did it before, but gosh it amazes me.

is there work involving the engine mounts...
what is the total cost of the swap
is there axle modification
can you turbo this?

Yes i know too many questions, but i bet somebody else is curious as me. There arent many stickies about v6, and i find this amzing....

Learned a lot in 10 years...I hardly log in anymore, last loginToday Sept 6 2019, and I was forced just to clarify a post. LOLIf you PM me and I dont respond, dont fret or cry. It fits perfectly fine. Yes, its been done before.

Yes. Details will be forthcoming in a little while. St205 mounts seem to work, but i think Carl @ Speed-Source might be playing around with that setup.

It all depends what you want to do. Tune-up, no tune-up - e153 tranny, or s54 tranny (I would suggest sticking to only V6 tranny personally for gearing and strength - but that's a whole other thread), and of course, labor on all these different types of setups are different. As far as pricing goes, it runs around the 3s neighborhood. Again, it all depends on what you're wanting to do. Solara V6 clips/very complete engine sets run about the same as 3s clips. Some may shake their heads at this "higher than expected" price, but its very hard to find a Solara that has not been processed by the yard for its separate parts. The more parts from that car you can get the better. I was able to get everything down the the fuel pump setup.

Many people will say something like "st185 axles with mr2 inners and a 3s spacer" (see skicky for details). I had this setup from previously, but Carl does not like it. He is looking at using the stock V6 axles or at least the outer CV's. He will be making some measurements on a friends V6 Solara to determine right setup options.

If its a non-vvti engine (like mine is), then yes. But personally, TRD makes a pretty nice S/C for this engine - so if i were to ever add more hp, i'd go SC'd path.

Colin, the reviews on the TRD supercharger for the 1mz are mixed with some very knowledgable people pretty critical. You might want to look for posts from Toysrme on mr2.com. Personally, I would go with a custom rotrex setup if I ever supercharged that beast.

Glad to see things are coming along.

Mounts are being worked on now. In the future, i'm not going to post everytime new pictures are loaded. I'll post updates periodically, and link pictures when its something "big."

Make sure those guys know that if they want to save themselves some time with the wiring, I can make a plug and play harness for you.

My god that's a massive lump of engine biggrin.gif
I know you're gonna enjoy that when it's all over.
One thing I see tho - it's gonna be a lot of work just to change something as simple as the alternator. kindasad.gif

you know why they put sheep at the edge of a cliff.... that way they push back!(2:27:32 AM) edit: please f*cking work, f*ck, sh*t, piss(2:28:08 AM) edit: that did the trick
access on this engine is not compromised, there is plenty of room between the firewall and the rear bank, same with the front back and the radiator. The engine is pretty much dead center in the engine bay.

the alternator is super easy to remove, no sweat there, pretty much the same deal as with a 5SFE alt.

rear spark plugs require a bit of maneuvering but can be taken out and back in with ease. there is plenty of room under the intake manifold to pull out the coils/wires.

Okay i lied. smile.gif

Take a look at the passenger side mount adapter being made (click the "next" button to see step by step progress of machining). Amazing work by Carl.

Note:

As you'll see, the both the stock mount and the "adapter" made by forgmann (the 6gc member that was working on this swap previously) are TERRIBLE. mad.gif Luckily for my blood pressure, we're coming close to the deadline where legal remedies will be sought if he does not pay the reimbursement agreed upon.

Thanks Jay. Yeah, we should meet up when i get up there. I don't know what the ETA is - that is Carl's ballgame. I think the plan is to get it done as soon as possible while still keeping to the quality they're known for with custom work.
