EGR Valve - Remove? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #53489 9 posts Started by cv7713
I know some of the 5SFTE guys remove the EGR valve but is it possible to remove it from the N/A engine with no bad side effects? Would the ECU be ok or would a piggyback need to be added? Would there be any gains? Just curious

Here's the deal with erg valves, your in FL, no inspection you can either remove it or make a blocking plate. It prob will throw a code and cause ur check engine light to come on but its nothing to worry about. I made a blocking plate for my eclipse back in the day because he in PA we require visual inspection of the egr. the egr imo is worthless...just send un burt gas back into your intake manifold...very bad. Thats why JDM engines dont have'em

Now SR powered
its not bad, its just emissions and is not functioning under high throttle. the egr only functions at light load, constant speeds above 30mph. removing, disabling, or blocking it will not enhance performance at all one bit.

removing, disabling, or blocking it will not enhance performance at all one bit.

now that we're clear on that, the turbo guys pull it because of how the system works off engine vacuum and how a turbo sort of mitigates engine vacuum can cause problems.

lol... wasn't really looking for a hp gain, just want to clean the bay a little bit and it's in the way. I am planning on the 5SFTE in the future also.

Now, I know I can get a plate to block off the hole in the throttle body, but what about the hole in the cylinder head? Can I block that? Should I block that?
Are you talking about the valve cover? NO! don't block that! Go to autozone and get one of those small air breathers to put over that. (if that's what you're talking about, if not then disregaurd my last statement biggrin.gif )

CLOSED on 25 acres!-shop coming soon....
thanks, wasn't talking about that though.. biggrin.gif i am talking about the hole that the bottom of the EGR Valve connects to.

Does anyone know how the ECU compensates when the EGR VSV is opened? For instance, does it enrich the fuel mixture or advance the timing? Does it do anything? I definately want to remove this along with the charcoal canister but do not want any negative side effects. Again, not looking for HP gain, but both of these things are in the way and ugly...

Also, am I supposed to block the port coming out of the cylinder head when I remove the EGR? (the one in the pic)

DON'T FORGET THAT THE EGR ALSO COOLS THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER BY ADDING INERT GAS. THIS REDUCES NOX AND IMPROVES FUEL ECONOMY
My understanding is that the Celica stock ECU wont let you remove the EGR Valve.
