At the top right corner of your engine bay, closest to the corner where your steering wheel is (if you live in the US) there is a bottle of fluid there that is almost empty for me

what is this fluid and how can i replace it?

that is brake fluid.

Go to your auto parts store and buy some brake fluid and refill it.

Just pull off the rubber cap and top it off.

Dont over fill it.

That also may be your clutch reservoir. Both take dot 3 or 4 brake fluid. You need to find out why its empty!

you mean those fluids dont just empty over time? for some reason i have a feeling the previous owner didn't pay too much attention to that kind of thing...

and the top says dot 3 i believe, but should I be able to just get that liquid and fill it even if its something else? clutch/break i mean

yeah thats the clutch resavior mines is full but the fliud is old and could use new stuff

Would that explain why I have to force it into gear sometimes? Like earlier, when I first started my car I couldn't get into reverse/first unless I fully engage the clutch again.

Need to bleed it, if you forced into gears! Air in the system!

Forcing meaning, it wont actually go into gears sometimes, infact I have to let go of the clutch and then press it again to get it to work.

Is bleeding in my skill range or should that be left to a mech?

Also, I need to do this by... tomorrow evening so is that possible?

Bleeding isn' too hard. You need someone to help you or a really nice tool. You could buy a brake bleeding vacuum from a parts store and just use that. All you have to do with help is to find the slave cylinder and while someone else holds the pedal down you open the bleed screw on the top of the slave cylinder and then close it before your help lets up on the pedal. Then repeat till only fluid comes out and no air. Just remember to close it while they still have thier foot on the pedal or else it will suck in more air. If you buy one of the bleeding vacuums then all you have to do is hook the hose to the bleed screw and open it and pump on the vac untill all you get is fluid then close the screw. Also make sure the resevoir never goes empty or else you have to start over again.
