I have used MTX subs in the past. They can make noise, but the sound quality isn't great. I wouldn't recommend them.
I am currently using a Kicker comp CVT (the shallow mount one) because of the size mostly. It sounds good, hits low, but I've had better. This is a great sub for the price and the fact that it doesn't hog your trunk is great (only a 4 5/16" mount depth. my old sub had a 5.2" depth but you had to leave an extra 2" at the back for pole venting. This kicker sub can be flush mounted against the back of your box).
I have a friend that uses Eclipse subs and they sound great as well, but his are also probably 6 years old. I have an eclipse headunit from when they were actually good

My personal preference is AVI, but good luck finding some. They are hand made in Richmond, BC.

What is your goal with your system? Do you want to have loud, pounding bass or just something to round out the system and not piss off your neighbours?
I care more about sound quality than just bass. My comp days are over.

In your situation, I'd probably go for Kicker if anything. And though you didn't specify, I'd get a 12 instead of a 10. I've found over the years that they sound better and hit lower.
