3SGE VS 3SGTE - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #53120 10 posts Started by cv7713
Do these two motors have the same internals? (pistons, rods, etc) I am asking because I know someone giving away a 1st gen 3SGE. Would the internals be able to hold up to an aftermarket turbo setup?
Yes you can turbo it. Results may vary on the condition of the motor.
No they aren't the same as 3sgte.

1st Gen 3sge's are old. I am thinking 4th gen Celica. I wouldn't put that in my car nor turbo it w/o a complete rebuild.

I see, the bore and stroke are the same but the compression is a bit higher than the turbo. Sad to say the first gen 3S has as much HP as my 5SFE kindasad.gif

Say you were going to rebuild an engine and add a turbo and your choices were a 86-89 3SGE and a 90-95 5SFE, which would you choose?

Wouldn't the "GE" have greater results?

Correct me if I am wrong (seriously) but I can throw in some 3SGTE pistons and keep the rods and crank the same which would give the same specs as a 1st gen 3SGTE?

Are the heads the same?

SORRY FOR ALL THE QUESTIONS, I JUST DO NOT WANT TO MISS OUT ON A CHANCE FOR A FREE ENGINE (WITH POSSIBLE POTENTIAL!)

Yes the GE is a different head, and it will allow for better flow.

1st gen 3S-GE puts out 150 BHP, you could turbo it if you can source the 1st gen 3S-GTE exhaust manifold and such. Dont know about the internals tho. The high compresion rate + turbo would probably take out the (paper) head gasket immediatly.

I also have a question on the 3sge, but its the Beams engine. Does the internals match the 3sgte and can you boost a Beams.

thanks josh smile.gif

Yes you can boost it. No they aren't the same internals. It requires proper fuel & cooling additions like turboing any other N/A car.

Thanks. Do you think the Beams engine can handle boost

Dont think so if you keep the internals as they are, you need to lower the compression if you dont you limit yourself to a small amount of boost. Besides I think its a waste of time. Sell the Beams clip for major $$$ and get a 3S-GTE instead.

thanks for the response. glade i dont have any engines yet because im still in the research stages
