Yup, hate to say it, but i'm leaving soon...

I've been thinking a lot lately about what i'm going to do with this upcoming deployment, that i have a chance to say yes, or no whether I want to go or not. I've been thinking about it a lot the past few days, but I've made a decision..I'm going to go. So sometime thursday i'm going to find out when I leave for Iraq..

So, I'm hopefully going to keep my celica, or sell it. Haven't decided..

My GF is pretty bummed about this whole situation - and so is my dad, because now he has to worry about me and my brother..but i'm pretty excited. I'm going with 2 of my best friends..so i'm stoked.

Yeah, hate to say it - but I'm going to get a good bit of money and experience. Plus i'm going to get to travel and see somewhere else then the US.

So i'm probably going to sell my celica, and buy a 350Z, or G35 when I come back...

hate to get rid of the celica, i've only had it for like 2 months - but, I'm not going to need it when I leave.

Yeah man. I'm really excited, really anxious to go. I mean, hell, my motto is Carpe Diem ... seize the moment. And heck, i'm going to come back with like, 45 grand in my bank account...that should be enough motivation right there. lol

Why do you say that? half the people that join the military join for the money, whether its for college or personal use. I joined for money for college.

Its not a bad idea, a lot of people join for the money..

Good luck! Enjoy your time there but also take care of yourself. What, is it a one year pump? Can't dad join 6gc and mod up ur car for you while ur gone and use that money for college when you get back?

haha National Guard pays 100% of my college tuition.

My dad doesn't have money to mod my car. I really want to keep it, but I don't see a need to pay my loan and everything if i'm not going to be driving the car.

I was actually talking to a buddy of mine just a bit ago and he told me he's looking at selling his Evo8 next summer because he is going to get another car. so I was thinking I might get that when I come back..

Thanks all for the comments and the luck wishes. Yeah, i'm a dying breed - and we all got some balls. lol Nobody else will reach down and grab 'em, so there is a few that has already grabbed 'em and decided we're going to do it for all of you who don't.

Well, i'm a 25U (signal system support specialist). I troubleshoot every bit of equipment that the army has...and i'm pretty frickin good at troubleshootin that crap. And yes, most of it is crap. Its helpful, but crap. lol

Well, i'm going to be getting attached to the 2nd 183rd Cav unit over there. They've already been over there for 2 months, so i'm only going to be there for the 10 months that they have left. So its a pretty easy deployment.

And its a peace mission pretty much. So just patrolling and that crap..To easy my friend- to easy.

Just from hearing what my best friend (she's going to Iraq VERY soon as a medic...) and bf, (he's hopefully not going there anytime soon) even just patrolling sounds very dangerous... But my best friend has told me some VERY f'd up things she's heard about that place from people who've been there since she's going very soon... I'm sure you're well aware of things to look out for... but sheesh be careful!!!!

I guess I have mixed feelings about this. You're making it sound fun and easy.

My brother-in-law has been over in Iraq for a year and 3 months. 82nd Airborne. He's finally coming home within the next few weeks and we can't wait. I don't think money is really worth putting your life on the line, but that's just me.

any ways..good luck fighting a pointless war. From my standpoint, i understand why any country needs an amry, and i have alot of respect for any one who has spent time in the army *my grandfathers, grandmothers, and my cousin were all in/are in the canadian forces*, but i think this whole war in iraq is stupid and pointless.

But yea, good luck over there, and hopefully you return safely.

No, nobody wants to go to Iraq. I won't lie, I kind of don't want to. But I gotta realize why I joined the army to begin with, and its to serve and protect my country.

A deployment to Iraq is going to be fun I think. I've learned you gotta try and make it fun in order for time to fly. You can't look at it all negative and expect for time to fly. So I try to look at the best in everything I do. The best thing I can think about going to Iraq is the experience, I get to travel, and I get a lot of money.

I didn't mean to be rude when I said you guys didn't have balls...Yesterday I heard some people who were in there 20's probably and talking about how the military, and this war is the worst thing that ever happend to the US...And its people like that that i just want to throw their punk @$$e$ in Iraq, and have them attempt to deal with the stuff that we go through on a daily basis....so no offense to anyone here about the whole "no balls" comment.

I'll be finding out tomorrow when I'll be leaving, i'm wicked excited. I'm going with a lot of my friends so its going to be one hell of a time!

It looks like what you do while over there won't put you in the line of fire. My friend sean is a Marine and he's about to leave for his second deployment in iraq and he says the army is the ones getting shot at and bombed bc they are the units who patrol the cities. Good luck over there.

I have my balls, but i can't go due to natural and surgical reasons. So you're serving for me as well.

Thanks BigRog, for putting your life on the line when others cannot. I for one, believe that they should be paying the military more for going to Iraq. In some areas the COLA is pathetic. My brother-in-law is on his second tour there; now on the flight line working on helicopters for the Army, he spent his previous tour there with the Marines' Special Forces. I hope everything works out there for you. And yes, I know the equipment you're using! Crap doesn't begin to describe it!

i agree with you 110%. i have balls, just dont feel like putting them on the line for the reasons above. i respect you and all my close friends that are in iraq currently. some in okinawa having more fun than those in iraq...lol. according to the stories i hear. the ones in iraq hate it and regret ever signing up. i remember in high school the recruiters selling them the beautiful picture guaranteeing they wouldnt be deployed to iraq - all of them. except one buddy that was brainwashed badly. fortunately the others didnt catch on and we still hang out when they come home for a bit. be safe out there, bigrog and return home safely.

Well..guys...got bad news from my company commander...I can't go. I didn't do SRC (Final step before you deploy) Monday or Tuesday..so..they won't do SRC for an individual..and thats the last SRC before the deployment..so..

I can't go..which is kind of awesome..but really sucks...

So..yeah, thanks for the input and wishes..

but...not going anymore..lol damnit man!
