8 inch subs in doors - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #52350 16 posts Started by pittfirefighter
alrights guys, as some or most of you know... our doors hold an 8 inch slot with either a 6.5" speaker in a custom metal bracket or an 8 inch stock sub (8 speaker premium package)... today i successfully swapped out my destroyed stock 8 inch subs for some brand new Memphis 15-ms84 mclass subs with 100watts RMS/ 200 watts peak power (10x that of stock)... pics are included...and they are in the car and do clear the windows and all... now hopefully we can compile a list of all 8 inch subs that do fit in the hole.... and pics of such subs... i know many have tried and many have succeeded but some have failed in the sub being either too deep or too thick through the magnet region... some modification is needed for all the subs but nothing a pair of pliers can't do.... so here's my pics and at the bottom is the beginning of the list smile.gif

EDIT: I ALSO WANT TO ADD THIS... MANY MANY PEOPLE HAVE ASKED ME ABOUT THIS SO HERE IT IS:

These are the 6.5" to 8" and 5.25" to 8" high quality plastic adapters for new aftermarket front speakers smile.gif

Breaking Axles...
the 8" sub/speakers especially components are rare to find these days... I got a pair of MB Quartz that a m8 gave me, and i gave it to someone else that worked like a charm, no modification needed.... ill try to get the model number
question: are you using the stock sub amp?

you could use the stock amp (it won't be as loud as stock due to the ohm difference) but i prefer a little more power so i have a JBL 4 way amp thats 100x4 that puts 100 to each 8 inch in the front and 200 some to the 12 inch in the back smile.gif

Breaking Axles...
i thought it would be overkill with subs in the back and then 8's in the doors... lots of bass but where are the mids and highs coming from?

i have the eight speaker system... one 12 inch sub in the back, 2 eight inch subs in the front, 2 amped 4" speakers in the door with component tweeters and two 6.5" coaxial speakers in the rear seat quarters

Breaking Axles...
ah that changes it... because i had considered 8's in the doors but I just figured it would be too much bass... i wish i had the 8 speakers setup frown.gif
Get 8inch midbass drivers instead of subs.

Couldn't find that model on Memphis Car Audio's site, not even under their discontinued models. Where did you find it?

the 4" already put out more than enough midbass... i was looking for a little more under 100hz

yeah, was meaning 50-300hz region but as long as you are happy and gives the result you want. I was just coming from the sound quality kind of perspective and 8inch midbass drivers are just awesome for midbass biggrin.gif. Use subwoofer for sub-bass.

One cheap example of a 7" midbass that will kick you in the chest and not sound uncontrolled.

Good call, soven.

In my opinion, its all you need, if you want something powerfull in the door, you will just hate the rattling (especially with the windows down). I'm using a cheap jensen amplifier to power them.
