My 96 ST is idling low and rough, so I checked the fault codes and got 2:

P0130 O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
P0133 O2 Sensor CKT Slow Response (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

Does this mean replace the O2 Sensor, and if so, which one (Cali car)?

the 1/4 doesnt have patience for a ST.... so we make them ST-T's so atleast we'll sound good going slow.

yes, the primary sensor could be the cause of this.

I replaced the Oxygen sensor yesterday. The check engine light hasn't come back on, but the car still has a rough idle. Any other ideas??

Tune up?
EGR valve?
Carbon buildup?

Could be ALOT of things.

check the codes again... sometimes sensor circuit means the sensor wiring, or the sensor's heater has failed ...

so check again to make sure the heater's wiring isn't burnt up or anything...

also check/clean your idle air control valve... that's basically what sets your idle... if it's clogged or sticking you won't get a CEL but it won't idle right...

after those 2 check out i'd move onto a tune up...

Hey guys,this is off the topic so i apologise..but..do we have a MAP/IAT combo sensor or do we just have the IAT one..?if so..we is it located? i'm tryna figure it out coz my friend asked that question the other day n i werent too sure..

Neither of those is for the heater circuit.
That is P0136
Regardless, it would have nothing to do with a rough idle [the heater circuit].
Those are for the signal circuit only.
If it was a wiring problem the code SHOULD have come back.

The ISC is one of the things that could cause rough idle though.

You have a 3SGE, correct?
You should have a MAP AND IAT sensor.
Each should be it's own sensor.

Yeh i have a 3SGE..i know the IAT sensor is the little thing that plugs either into ur intake cone or housing..but where is the MAP sensor then..i was thinking it was all one unit doing two jobs..but ur saying its two seperate units located in different parts of the the engine bay right..?

And if so..the IAT sensor should only have two wires running off it..?

Should yes.
I"ve never worked directly on a gen III 3SGE.

But it should be similar to a gen III 3SGTE.

Which has separate sensors.
Not to mention usually if the ECU relies on a MAP sensor the intake temp sensor is separate.

It's most likely on your firewall.

Why are you replacing them?

I'm not really replacing them..more like wiring in a performance module into the sensor..which will alter the air/fuel ratio..the IAT is wot i need to wire it into..it says i need to connect one wire to the Cold sensor wire and an another to the HOT sensor wire..then continue the circuit onto the ECU..so i was a little confused..thanx alot for the help though..now i can get cracking tomorow morning..

I noticed the rough idle only occurs when I step on the brake pedal. When I lift my foot off it idles fine. Could it be the alternator??

you have an automatic and it only idles rough in D or R when you step on the brake pedal, right?

His ECU is MAP based.
A vacuum leak won't cause a rough idle.

Check your brake light circuit connections and grounds.

Could also be a weak battery, wouldn't hurt to have it and the alt tested.

No braking issues. My battery is definitely not new...leaks. Was planning on replacing it anyway, so I'll do that. Thanks for the advice.
