Boost Gauge Gets Extremely HOT - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #51107 8 posts Started by JoKeRkId613
So I just installed a black TRD boost gauge - looks sooo sexy. I love it, but holy crap it gets hot... as in heat-hot. I'm pretty sure I wired everything correctly, but when I touch the bezel or clear face of the gauge, it's really hot. Is this normal? if not, what could it be?

EDIT: it's a mechanical gauge, if it matters.

it shouldn't get hot. Is the lighting on it always on or something? since its mechanical the only thing attached to it that would make it hot are the wires for the lights.
i drove the car last night with the gauge for the first time and the lights were on. i guess that could be what it was. i'll see if i get the same thing today in the day time. i'll look into swapping the bulbs out to LEDs - im assuming thatll help. thanks man.
Where did you wire the light power to?

if its mechanical then its got the vacuum pipe going to it as well. Not felt mine though but hot turbo air from the vac pipe would probably be heating the inside mechanism up too.

I would say its cos the lights on all the time though.
No turbo air gets to the gauge.

i'll post pics when i get home tonight. yea, its the lights because it wasnt hot today in the morning. i wired them to the a/c control's pos/neg dimmer wires. it dims with the rest of the gauges. im supposed to be running 7psi but it only goes to 6psi. im 100% sure i hooked it up correctly. so i gotta see whats not letting me get the full 7.

oh, and it's not turbo air, its supercharger air wink.gif
