Ok so my ride sucks and there is a faint knocking noise coming from the rear of the car whenever i go over bumps. I was told that i needed new shocks. I took the car to a local shop and they wanted 790 just to install oem shocks. surely there has to be a cheaper way to solve this one, of the many problems my celica has. ideas on brands? can i install them myself? also i'd like to maybe get some aftermarket springs to lower the ride height. Any suggestions on the best combo that is effective in both price and performance?

check the anti-roll (sway bar) bar bushes first before spending silly money on new shocks.
