i need to get some advice on drilled + slotted rotors.
from what i've read on here before it seems like slotted is good. but cross-drilled is bad (leads to cracking allot)

i've been warping rotors allot. so i think i should try to upgrade to better ones. my mechanic says he found some that are cross-drilled and slotted, and have a lifetime warranty. i think they cost something like a 120usd per rotor.

lifetime warranty alone sounds worth the money. is there any chance that the cross-drilling isn't going to lead to the rotors cracking?

also, do performance brake rotors wear your brake pads down quicker?

if your warping rotors allot, id get that fixed 1st..chances are you have a bad bearing causing uneven braking therefore rotors warp.

i didn't think that'd be the cause...good call. yes, i absolutely do have a bad bearing. which damaged something else which will take a few days to get here too she's in the shop getting fixed now. and because of time constraints i'm getting regular rotors put on for now.

any thoughts on the slotted + cross drilled brake rotors?

slotted for fronts and blanks for rear will do...$35 and $30 so $130 for all 4 at tirerack.

cross dilled and/or slotted is help against brake fade. Brake fade is expirenced usually while course racing or cayon carving due to high speed braking. Since brakes work by causing friction, which causes heat, the fuild can get really hot and maybe even boil.

So to solve this, some use slotted/drilled rotors to disspense heat better.

Odds are you'll prob never expirence brake fade on your daily driver, so the rotors are really just for looks.

Drilled & slotted rotors seem to be cheaper than just slotted, so if they are durable for normal road use, and give a bit of a rotating mass weight reduction, might be best bang for the buck.

according to wikipedia cross-drilled brakes are for looks and weight reduction. but it also mentions them under the cracking section.

i always assumed it would help with cooling, even though it's less mass, it exposes more surface area to the air. like why heat-sinks on chips have fins instead of being a block of metal.

still sorta thinking about it 'cause of the lifetime warranty bit.

stock blanks are the best. Just use them

just read a ton of stuff on a corvette forum. almost everyone suggests that drilled or slotted rotors were only useful with the brake pads 20 years ago.

i like the idea of a lifetime warranty on my brake rotors, but first and foremost i want my brakes to stop my car quickly.

guess i should stick with plains.

blanks provide more surface area too.

And yes, I've seen people crack and break that at the PutmanPark road course.
