k i am sure that i have had some similar posts to this about my problem. just never a thread asking how the hell do i fix it.

the switch in my door that tells the car if it is open is not working. i replaced the button itself but it didn't fix it. i am thinking i have a short or something. anyone else have this problem?
how do i fix it? i am truly annoyed at this point.

anyone? all help will be appreciated. thanks guys.

edit: i have already taken apart the panels right there and don't really know what to look for. i will take some pics tomorrow morn. i am also having some issues with my seat belt. i am in the process of trying to get that fixed too. did you khow that they changed the seat belts from 94 to 99? if what i am going to do doesn't work i will ask more q's

i would say pull the switch out and see if it works with a good ground. it might b a short on the negative side. Also maybe pull the interior plastics out of the way and take a look at whats going on behind it.

A short on the ground [negative] side wouldn't cause it to not work.
An open [such as bad ground] would.

IIRC the ground for it is right there anyways, though I might be wrong.

See if it has 12V going to the switch.
If not it could be the integration relay.

trace the wire from the switch,...what this really is, is that your lights doesnt get 12- when the door is open, im sure there must be a cut in the wire somewhere.

Except a short would cause it to work all the time, since it's a ground switching circuit on the switch side. Unless of course it's a short in the positive blue/yellow side, then the fuse would pop all the time.




First thing, check the fuse under the hood which is the 10A dome fuse. If it's good, move on.


Disconnect the door switch, take a piece of wire, stuff it in the connector with the red/white wire and ground your wire on any bare metal. If the lights come on then it's your switch.

Whats the problem with your seatbelt?

i think it just needs to be replaced. it doesn't tighten very well. i think it is just worn out.
it pretty much feels like it is useless.

What I should have put is
A short on the ground side would still allow it to work.

What it won't do [a short on the ground side] is make it work all the time. The switch still would need to be closed.
You won't even know if you had a short on the ground side, unless you physically saw it for some reason.

The fuse will be good if the other switches are working.

That piece of wire trick will work.
But if you replaced the switch with a brand new one it's most likely not getting power for some reason or other.
Check either way.

Seatbelts are best replaced.
You can try to source a junkyard one, but if it's an accident car the belt is most likely damaged.
Even if it isn't the dr side belt gets the most wear and tear, so IMO you're best off getting one new.

If there was a short on the ground side the circuit would be on all the time since it's ground switching. Doesn't matter what the switch does, it would be grounding thru the short hence on all the time.
