hey everyone i was wondering if any body know if in califonia you can pass smog if you put a 3sgte engine in a 96 st celica?? info please because im really trying to get that engine but dont know if its smog legal anf info is helpful peace out!

The only way you could do it is to find a 94 or 95 USDM MR2 SW20 motor.

you have a 1996 celi, and the last version of 3SGTE USDM was produce in 1995 ( MR2 ) the law states that when swapping an engine, it has to be the same year or newer and have all the emission control system in place, and there is no such a thing. the 3SGTE engines that are your year or newer are JDM which means they don't have Cali emission controls in place

When was the last sw20 turbo made??? I've got a 95 celi (early 95...purchased dec 94). I can do a legal 3s swap right?

so how do the other guys in cali with the swaps get past smog?
