150,000 miles maintenance - 6G Celicas Forums

what type of maintenance should i be doing?? i can name some of the basics...can you guys help me out on what i left out...PLEASE...
ohh yeah i have a 97 ST automatic

Need:
Spark Plugs
Cap and Rotor
Wires
PCV Valve
Timing Belt, water pump, tensioner
Flush Coolant
Flush power steering fluid(how hard is this?? or should i take it to a shop??)
Transmission Oil Change

Done:
Drive belts(AC, powersteering, and alternator)
Upper and lower radiator hose
Thermostat
Fuel filter
Valve cover gasket

inspect all the hoses and replace ones that need replacing
check the battery terminals for corrosion and clean if necessary
inspect and the rotate or replace the tires if needed
ispect your brake pads and replace (along with resurfacing the rotors) if necessary
air filter
inspect your axle boots
replace fuel tank cap gasket
adjust valve clearances
inspect the exhaust for leaks
inspect your steering and suspension systems
maybe pull you throttle body and EGR off and clean any carbon build out of them

plus all the other stuff you said.

how do i clean the corrossion on my battery?? what do i use??
how hard is it to change the axle boots??
any how to on removing EGR?? dont even know where its located

Very nice write-up. Sounds like you are a tech who done his fair share of PMI's. If not, sounds like you'd make a great entry level tech.

Very nice write-up. Sounds like you are a tech who done his fair share of PMI's. If not, sounds like you'd make a great entry level tech.

wow, thanks! I'm not a tech though. in fact, I'm only 17 and this is my first car. but I'm taking classes and hope to have an AS degree in automotive technology in two years and then be a mechanic after that. so that means a lot to me. biggrin.gif

Sounds like you could def handle getting into a dealership as an express tech (oil changes, tire rotates, PMIs, belts, ect). I recommend getting into the auto feild asap to build your expirence.

would if I could. 99.9% of all places like tire shops, oil change places, etc. all require that you have to be 18+ years old to work there. I just found out last night that America's Tire Co will hire a 17-year-old though so I'm planning on getting an application

there are lil cleaner tools availible at local car shops..it allows to shave down the post a little bit so that it becomes a lot cleaner and allows for better connectivity..check around cuz its pretty cheap for those..

or, if u have a file, u can file it around a lil bit. if its jus a lil bit of cleanin u need, u can jus pour a lil coca cola on the posts n wipe off the rest with a lil water n a towel biggrin.gif

thanx...went to autozone and bought a spray cleaner for the battery...and wiped it down...came off pretty easy...

jsut use some coke, and a wire brush. worked perfect for me

didn't know if it would mess up my battery...never cleaned it before...i would have replaced it but batteries are so expensive...why change it if it works
