OK i have a 1994 coupe with a 4 stereo set up now,i am planning on putting a sub box to house some kinda subs in the truck,i was wondering is there really a big difference between the 4, 6, and 8 speaker set up?Can i buy the door panels,and the other panels that are made for the 8 or 6 speaker set up if i wanted to convert?I would really like to see some pics of all the different sound set ups!

what are you trying to accomplish?

generally... the more speakers you have the higher quality of sound you can get. Example: if you have 1 speaker, the sound range from that speaker can only produce from a sharp pitch to the normal pitch sound. So when you play music with one speaker only, you can only hear half the music. So if you add a second speaker that can play lower level sounds from normal pitch to low pitch. You will get almost the full spectrum of music. The third speaker will play low and sub-sonic sound. So with 3 speakers you can hear all the sounds.

It can hurt your system too if you randomly add speakers. If you have speaker that over lap on the same range, then you will a super loud of one sound. An example is all the speakers are good at making vocal. No matter how you tune it, you will have a dominate vocal sound. which will sound like a cheap 10 dollar radio.



Problem you run into are: 1) cost 2) tuning, if you dont select the righ sets of speakers you end up getting worse performance then with a 4 speaker set up. 3) location, if you locate the speaker in the wrong area it will sound bad. Example is having a subwoofer infront of you. 4) parts compatiblity, how often do you see 6 channel head units? majority of the head units you get are four. 5) mounting the speakers, if you want to use the OEM door pannels, you will need to buy the OEM speaker mounts.

So to answer your question, is 8 speakers greater then 4? yes if you know what your doing and have the money.

But a high quality 4 channel set up will out perform a cheap 6 channel set up put together by a seven year old.

And there are also hybrid speakers too, that have more then one voice coil in in each speaker. They lack tune-ablity, but they dont suffer as much from speaker range problems.

Buy a 4 channel amplifier(monoblock optional) a set of 2way components (6.5" and tweeter) and a subwoofer(or two) is all you will ever need.Majority of people would not know how to setup 3ways properly and it is too much of a hassle.

that sub will rattle your car to no end and overpower your cabin speakers - if you want that then thats great! guess it depends how you play your music

This is why you buy a 4 ch. amp and then amp. the speakers =]

If you want big subs generally you aren't after sound quality, you just want to share your music with the other cars on the road (and if not, that's what they think you are doing). I had 2 15's in my old car and I could still hear my music just fine, and I didn't have any speakers amped. Just get an amp that has a rheostat dial that plugs into it so that you can turn down your subs for normal music. Also, getting quality speakers for everything else makes a big difference. If you want better quality, I suggest getting a component set with crossovers, preferably with a -24db crossover.

ok,well i was thinking today(i had like 3 hours to think today cause i had tests all day)was to someway modify my back seat and trunk to house subs,idk how,but i want to still be able to put stuff in the back seat,like clothes,grocieries,etc..I was thinking of someway to make like a box that can flip or roll from the trunk to the back seat,so when i have noting in the back seat the subs can be there, and when i have stuff the subs can flip or roll into the trunk.The problem is that would the subs sound horrible if they were right behind me?So i thought pull out my backseat,and just create something,has anyone tried this or can help me with it?Also im pretty amp retarded..A a amp basically amplifys the power sent to it right or do they work differently?Also how big of a amp would i have to get if i got the two 10" there 1000W does that mean i have to have a 2000W amps..plz say no..

EDIT:ok yea i think if i were to do this moding thing i would put 2 10" subs in just for the looks,or just do 2 tens even if im not going to. Here the two i was thinkin of(i like these dubs)

well those 10's are 600 watts rms... that would mean you really need to get atleast a 1200 watt rms amp... but 1500 would be perfect... as far as the box situation goes, i cant help u too much with what u want to do

And thats a multi or 2 channel,or mono amp?Is there any really good amp thtas just better than all the rest for a decent cost?

A 3way speaker is the same in terms of setup if you run it with the supplied crossover. What I was meaning is, the location/install of the speakers. More often than not, you would be better off spending the money on a better set of 2ways and making your install less complicated

I just got a new head unit installed and previously had 2 really good Focal 6 1/2 in the rear and 2 Focal 5 1/4 on the bottom in the front. I have an 8 speaker setup.

The guy at car toys told me it would sound better to just not run the 4in. speakers in the mid door panel b/c they are stock, so he didn't wire them up to the head unit.

My question now is...when the guy installed my new head unit today he hooked the 4's back up...which I didn't want. Now I get way too many highs and mids than I wanted.

How do I go about unhooking the 4's? Do I take the door panels off and just simply unhook them and tape em up?

to "unhook" that is all you have to do. remove the door panel and unclip the harness tada!

why do you have 6 1/2 in the rear and 5 1/4 in the front .....if anything id say too switch those speakers around....but yes simply unpluge them
cut the wires...etc...
