Does Everyone Else Procrastinate This Badly? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #48786 22 posts Started by Coomer
I'm a horrible procrastinator. When it comes to work/school, I always wait until the very last minute to get stuff done.

At work, if they expect a software application in two weeks, I usually do whatever until a couple days before it's expected and then I start on it. Normally, I'd do it immediately, have it done in a day, and impress people, but lately, I've just been procrastinating.

Last week I started my quarter-long programming project at 2am, eight hours before it was due. I ended up getting a 100% grade on it, but it was stressful.

Today I've got four data mining projects/assignments due by 10pm, and I've yet to start on any of them. I also have a 6-10 page term paper for another class due at 3pm, and here it is, 11:18am, and I'm on 6GC, with an empty Word document where my paper should be. tongue.gif

And then tomorrow I have a 5 page paper due for another class, and I'm sure I won't start that until tomorrow morning.

I've also been putting off job hunting (I'm done with school in one week,) but my excuse for that is that I have to get the new 6GC online so it's impressive when I show it to future employers. wink.gif

Does anyone else procrastinate this badly? Have any tips for getting over my procrastination habits? I need to get back into the habit of not procrastinating when I actually get a good job here shortly.

New Toyota project coming soon...
I definitely have the same problem, always have. but I find I actually work better under stress so I haven't made an effort to change, I guess I'll just get grey hair sooner lol

I procrastinate every so often, but the way I get around that in school is the fact that I don't make friends while I am there. If I don't have friends, then I don't have someone to talk to - and I get my work done in class.

With work, I take all the jobs I have to take care of today and put them in my blackberry - which will tell me when I need to be somewhere... Like now... I am getting an alarm telling me I need to go to Room 223 and uninstall their projector and submit it for warranty work and then replace a hard drive in Room A4..

Got to run!

yup, i always procrastinate. not as much as you, but that's probably just cuz you have a lot more to do than me. i wait to do those 7-10 paged essays the night before they're due and still pull off an A. it sucks, but i can't seem to concentrate when i know i've got weeks to finish them. my freinds always tell me... "procrastination is like masturbation... its all good while you're doing it, but in the end you realize you've just screwed yourself."

ss-iii splitters and 404 skirts areon. which means i need to update my sig.

yep, like now, i dont have work tonight, so i decided to go bike riding with some friends now that schools done with for the day. I should be getting my hw done so it doesn't wait until whatever time i end up getting back home but my friends are supposed to be over soon and i just don't feel like doing hw, even though i know i should...lol..bad habbit

I've learned to work with it. I procrastinate when I'm at home or with friends. If I stay on campus then I can get more done which is why I study on campus. Sometimes I can force myself to do homework on weekends but it gets harder on some subjects like computers. I like computers which is my major (computer engineering), but it tends to get boring and so I procrastinate when doing it, lol.
i was going to reply on this...
but i think i will wait til tomorrow to do it! laugh.gif

i am such a procrastinator! always have.

Call me a traitor! See if I care. ;)
we all procrstinate here i there i think, but as long as whatever we are procrastinating gets done, is it really hurting? me personally, i will push certain inspection that need to be done during the day until the end of shift until the last minute...

jogging is where its at to curb procrastination. I find that a couple brisk 3-4 mile jogs a week and I'm right as rain.

O Great One,

don't be hard on yourself for this. It's human nature to put off anything that doesn't generate immediate gratification. You apply yourself faster and better on things that interest you. The better the pay-off, the better and faster the work. This may sound like the start of a 12-step lecture but...at least you are aware that it's become a thorn in your side. If it comes to have an impact on your prouductivity, you can't beat a to-do list and a good daytimer. I am speaking from experience. I used to have a slack do-it-as-it-comes type of job. With cut-backs and technology changes, I've had to adapt the way i tackle my daily routines. I used to throw out the daytimers they issue here to every employee, what did i need that for? Now i have on on my desk at work, one on my desk at home and my portsable is chock full of meetings, deadlines and projects.

bottom line, get organised...delegate tasks when you can and put aside distractions to attain your goals.

merde, that was long-winded. and to think i replied to this while i was teching a live radio show. my problem is multitasking (i hear it leads to lesions on the brain) and taking it too far

Same here Coomer, Almost everything is done at the very last moment. Even sometimes with the Celica.

The only place I dont do it is at work. There is just the other way around. When getting I task I speed up to do it as fast as possible so when I'm done I can relax the rest of the given hours for the task biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

i am flattered. >>BLUSH !!!>>
I'm that way too. I'll leave huge projects in school until 2 am, like 7 hours before they are due. then stay up till 5 or 6, get a couple hours sleep, down an energy drink or two, try to make it through class without falling asleep, then I completely crash by afternoon.

I spend more time in 6gc than doing my homework or term paper. I guess it all depends on what we are interested in doing. I am tired of school and work, 6gc just calms me down so when I come back to what i need to do.. I am more refreshed finishing it.
