does your SAFC(2) get hot? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #4858 20 posts Started by 97sccelica
hey guys,

i have had my SAFC in since monday. and recently i have noticed that it gets pretty hot after driving for about 30 minutes.

does the same happen with anyone else?

i know that i wired everything properly, there are no shorts, and none of the warnings in the SAFC manual are apparant, but it says nothing about the SAFC getting hot.

it does cool off pretty quick though.

Well, mines mounted on the dash, so the sun does heat it up. But it also gets hot normally. Don't worry about it. It's a computer, and there's no active cooling in it so you'd expect it to get hot after running for a while.

thanks, that what i was thinking but wanted to be sure.

oh and BTW, i know that you have a GT but what are the in and out settings for your pressure? im not sure what the settings should be on a 7afe, i have it at 1 to 1, i tried 0 to 0 and that gave a CEL, and high made it rev higher than normal.

In the install manual, where it tells you what diagrams to use for what engine, there should be another little box that says like "PR3" or something. PR stands for pressure, and the 3 stands for 3 in and 3 out. I think that's what mine is set to, I'm not sure what it would be for the 7afe. Oh, and don't set them to different numbers... it's uh... very bad.
thanks

=======For those who use SAFC2========
IMPORTANT

When the SAFC2 is becoming hot you will notice the the knocking value will raise as the SAFC2 temperature increase. usually it reaches high values in summer during the day (like 160 at idle!!!!) you don't have to worn for engine knock cause it's a bug of the SAFC2.
If you'll put it in front of the vents when AC is activated, you'll see the knocking value reducing in normal range.
Keep in mind and drive safe!! >wink.gif> >wink.gif> >wink.gif> >wink.gif>

The S-AFC is a piggyback fuel computer that modifies the air-flow meter signal in order to optimize your air-fuel ratio. Some details about the older, original S-AFC can be found here on Apexi's website.

New Toyota project coming soon...
Safc 2 worth the price? i know it sure would look good in my dash.. >smile.gif>

Go to a computer place or anywhere and buy a low power cooling fan for a processor. Set it up to run off of your lighter or something, and attach it to the back of the SAFC. That shuld keep the temp down, and sound really professional when you crank your car.

Jon
actually, now that i have it infront of the ac vent, i turn the fan on with no AC and it stays perfectly cool and looks great.

im gonna take a pic tomorrow

If you have something to tune it is. Spend your money first on exhaust, header, intake, etc... then get the s-afc and get some dyno time. If you are seriously going to be upgrading your engine, you'll need it.

Just installed an SAFCII in my 97 7AFE.
All seems well for the moment...that is, it lights up OK and there are no warnings.
All I got to do now is find out how to tune it.

BTW: Edo's "How-To" was a great help.
