I don't know exactly what it is called. It's just a plastic piece. It connects from bumper to main underbody of the car.

It broke off my car and have no clue how it could break.

My instructor said that it's for cooling purposes also.

i think your talking about the air dam. connects from bumper to under engine panel. (its that thing that scrapes whenever you pull to close to a high curb when parking )directs flow of air slightly into radiator and engine bay. mine ripped off on the highway one day because it didn't get tightened down properly after replacing the radiator. the car shakes quite a bit more at high speeds and affected stability somewhat for the time i drove with it off. things were peachy once i put one back on!
