Alright well i'm going to take out my back seat in my coupe.. i know some people are probably against it but.. since i'm only 17 i'm only allowed to have one other person in the car, and the coupe back seats are small enough already to barely even fit people in it.

My idea was to get two subs build a custom box in where the back seat was.. but i don't know anything about building a box that would sound good?

That's what I've got planned. Other things have come first, of course, that's how it always works, but I've only got the 2 front seats in. I just didn't like having anyone back there b/c it was so unconfortable and small-roomed. That, and I Dynomatted everywhere! Good stuff. It's definitely a good idea though, gotta be careful too, depending on where you go for the box it will be pretty expensive. Unless you know someone that can help you or you learn how to do it.

Yeah...it's true. That and when you ride with a car-load or people it adds much weight! And my car's slow as it is! At one point I only had 1 seat (drivers...duh) but then my (at the time fiancé) wife got a bit pissed after a while!

still don't know how to build a box, i just need a basic idea.. i just want it to sound nice, and some what loud. i was just going to take out the back seat, put in some plywood and cut it nice, install the subs, and make it open air.. however i guess this won't make it sound good? i know nothing about box's / speakers.. any help is great,

Your best bet for that sort of setup is creating a wire frame and using fiberglass to create something.

anyone got pics of a coupe back seats? i've only seen hatch..

Not for a first timer. I had a how-to written out for your standard mdf box ..and then IE jsut crashed and lunc hbreak is almost up. SO I'll repost it later tonight after I get off cnelson.

i was going to make two fiberglass ones to hold 12's etc. haven't gotten a chance yet though

jaws, coupe back seats can be interchanged with hatch back seats, they weigh ~ 70 lbs and for a coupe you'd prolly have to take out some of the metal in that lil oval area that connects into the trucnk to fit a big box, otherwise just have it sit entirely in the cabin and actually have a trunk for a change, x2 for sprints idea with fiberglass if you want it to look nice, just take your time, do some research, make some small test projects, but a cheap setup, just make a box and mount that sucker in, for a how to, all you need is a 10mm wrench to take the top pieces out, and then the front just pulls up 2 clips on either side, pull the plastic push tabs off 5 or 6 of them if i remember and your done, take the tops off first, then the bottom

i'm going to use ply wood i think.. not sure yet.. but how hard is it to take out the back seat? Is it bolted in? because if it is.. i can just use the holes to bolt the ply wood on.

My new idea.. is just buy 2 subs already in a box and just cut holes in the ply wood to fit the subs that already have the boxes.. Then wrap the ply wood with car carpet stuff.. i'd have the subs on the part where the bottom of the seats are.. than on the back rest part of the seat i'd have ply wood and bolt the amp to that. (2 amps, one for the subs, one for the speakers..) in my mind it seems like it should work.. i might skecth out the layout later.

Using MDF, either 1/2" or 3/4", you will also need some other tools. Drill, pneumatic stapler or finish nailer, jigsaw, vinyl sealer, M3 Spray adhesive, wood glue and some kind of carpeting material. DESIGN a box first, not just for the size of the subs but decide whether you'd like a ported box, a vented box or simply just a sealed box. You can pick up the Subs and probably the porting/venting materials at www.partsexpress.net , they have everything do address your home or car audio needs. This will be a walkthrough for a simple sealed box, although it doesnt take much imagination to elaborate on the port/vented boxes. Once you decide on a design, cut out the the right dimensions from the MDF and apply wood glue on any edges that are to be PNUEMATICALLY stapled together, your fathers standard staple gun wont work, just before you plan to staple them together. Now you will need a 3 holes, one for the +- terminal (i guess thats what its called, someone educate me please =) ) and 2 for the subs. Simply drill a hole in the middle of each planned sub hole(Draw on the MDF w/ a pencil) and use the jigsaw to completely cut out the holes. Do the same for the +-terminal. Once you have the holes cut out, take some latex sealer and seal all the joints inside the box, although its not completely necessary you will notice a difference. after that its just connecting wires from the +- terminal and runnin them to where you wouldocnnect your subs in. And finally before you put in the subs, bust out the 3M Spray adhesive and spray it down, its easier todo 1side at a time, and apply carpeting using a credit card to get the bubbles out and you should be good to go.Good Luck,and mozilla crashed on me halfway through the second time I was writing this up lol, no luck with internet browsers i guess

Seats aren't that hard to get out if you just find all the bolts and have the tools. Your design seems like a good one to me. I'm in the boat where i want to remove the back seats and just carpet the metal and plexi glass the hole to the trunk but I always end up driving my friends around though so I can't bring myself to create a 2 seater. And yes, in theory that set up will work. Might have to fine tune it after, on partexpress they sell special fiber/foam stuff to pack in behind your subs that you might want to look into. improves clarity of the bass.
