I heard rumors about a stock ST running approximately 17 sec. on the 1/4 mile. My best run has been 18.00 sec. flat! That's REALLY bad! I have an auto ST with and Injen intake, HP header, stock piping with no resonator and with only one cat (figured i'd redo the piping once I begin project 7a-fte). I'm just asking for advice and help, so don't waste your time clowning me for having auto. Also I realize running on 18" wheels will hurt, but damn 18 sec.???? Would an exhaust leak from my header be the culprit here? Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys.

Thanks guys. It's good to know that the intake, header and exhaust are CRAP! Appreciate the help though!
I wouldn't really worry too much about it, I mean in the end aren't we really doing this to our cars to impress the girls!!!

u are expecting too much from an ST - 7AFE . Considering you are from florida, it shouldn't be a problem for you to perform a 3S-GTE swap.. Your car already looks agressive, now give it a powertrain that can back it up >>
Even if you turbo the 7A-FE, it will still be slow, the celica is one heavy mother..

last i checked, my car was lighter than my dad's civic dx coupe and my friends 94 GSR.
turboing an ST will give you a car that matches up with gsr's, at 5 psi intercooled, you will gain around 50hp and similar torque gains, with that the HP will be close to that of a 94+ GSR and have way more torque in a lighter car.
but seeing as how i dont consider GSR's fast, yes an ST-T will not be fast either.

XSTeknique you and me in the same boat man. I heard rumors about the GT running 16s and I ran mid 17s. Only put your stocks on if they are indeed lighter, and more mass is at the center of the wheel. My 17s compared to my 15s are lighter, have less rotational inertia, and are the same size, and wider.
I'm going to run again after taking out my seats, putting on my 17s, changing the plugs and fuel filter, and taking out my spare. Oh, I'm also going to go on a better track day. It makes a difference.
I have an auto too. How are you launching? At the gate, use your left foot and brake down to the firewall. Then use your right foot and rev up to 2500 rpms. You'll be revving against the torque converter, so it isn't THAT good for you car, but it's hella better than neutral drop and it's the only way to race in an auto. You can't rev much higher than 2500 rpms anyway, but I hope this helps.

Turbo 7afe's aren't slow or heavy. The specs for my 1997 coupe says it weighs under 2400 lbs. Take out the extra seats and stuff in the trunk and it could weigh even less. I've heard of 7afte Corollas that run mid 14's at only 7 psi. I've read of one online that tried boosting more than that and cracked a piston, though. I think turboing the 7afe is worth it, as long as you stay within its limits. It would cost you a lot less than a swap, and spare parts would always be easier to find. Check out this Focus that made like 230 horsepower with only 7 psi after a little bit of tuning: http://www.turbomagazine.com/tech/0308tur_focus/

I've launched like that before, but like you said...not good for the car. My launch is pretty good, I think I get the best possible launch I can for my auto ST. But sadly, I have to sell the car! Can't afford to work on it anymore, time to move on. Hopefully someone will buy it and finish the job for me with a swap.

some one on celica.net ran 12psi intercooled on his 97 ST consistantly and then close to double that for the last week that he had the turbo on the car.
the engine still runs. at one point an oil line popped off and all the oil drained out of the engine.
btw he said that at 5 psi non intercooled he was able to beat a 6spd celica gts.
at 12psi he only upgraded the fuel pump and injectors if i remember correctly but he did have all the other parts needed.

Which turbo was he running? There's a place that makes a turbo kit for 7afe Corollas that uses a T25 or a T25BB. Most turbo jobs I see are T3 or T3/T4 hybrids. Oh yeah, what kind've times and HP did that guy have?

he was running a t3, it was a custom setup.
i think he ran low 15's when he was running with out an intercooler, once he added an intercooler and raised the boost he said that he would beat new mustang GT's

no, when he was at 5 psi non intercooled(running low 15's), he beat a gts.
