First, welcome to the forums smile.gif there is a lot of good information here that is very useful. One of those useful things is the search function in the top right-hand side of the screen. These links all cover trim questions.

I Just changed my gauge lamps , i tried blue...first off , its not that birght and i think i need brighter lights but i dont know where to look , also i want to change the colour on the keyhole and the cigerrete lighter and i was wondering wherether there is a coloured lamp to buy or i have to paint the bulbs , if paint then how many coats ?? how do i spray the cigarette light ? ( it has like plastic covers )
instead of using regular bulbs try to get LEDs replacements they are a lot brighter than regular bulbs and available in almost any color,

search for a topic on this section, there was one not long ago ( 1 -2 weeks ) that explain how to make them brighter, where to get the LEDs, and picture of different color.

thanks , i will try to buy some
OK , i went and got me some LEDs which cost alot ! i think o got ripped off ......anyways , one of my gauge lights keep blinking and tunring off and then coming back on and so on ! what could it be ? could it be the socket ?? or the connectors on the electronic panel ( green thing ) ?? if it is one of theese, how do i fix it ?
BULB KEEPS TURNING ON ANF OFF PLZ READ ABOVE !!!
swap a known good LED with the one that is blinking. If it stop blinking then it is a bad LED. If it still blinks then it is the cluster/connection.

Start there and let us know.

i got it to worok finally , it turned out that if the socket is attached too tight the bulb wont light so i loosened the little connectors and now it works fine ! love my new guages !
I Didnt want to make a new thread since this also relates to " Interior mods" . i want blue neon/ led ( whichever) lights in my interior , i dont know much about it but i am planing to instal underbody neon and if i am driving top down at night i think it would look better to have a slight blue light inside the interior ....is there anything like that out there ?? if yes , how to instal and stuff ..
yeah there are these things you can buy at autozone that have double sided tape on them and they stick to anything and you just stick them on and wire them to a switch, they aren't too pricey either, under 20 bucks for 8 Leds. i have red in my car but they have them in any color.

btw i hope you know in most places its not street legal to have blue lights on your car.

my cardomain
From what I understand, blue and red are not legal, as those are reserved for emergency vehicles.

i am talking about lights in my INTERIOR , like under the seats and the dash ....but it is a convertible , does this mean that it will be illegal for me to drive top down at night ?? ...... also does that mean that underbody neon is illegal too ??

depending on how bright it is.. Just like a dome light.. you aren't supposed to drive with it on for a long period of time because it is destracting for other drivers. Underbody neons are illegal to be in use while driving as far as I know.

i got one from ebay for 30 bucks , pretty cheap consdiering that toyota asked for 340 $ , i broke it as i was trying to pain it to glow blue , now i noticed it had bulbs with filter on , cant theese bulbs be changed to blue bulbs ?? if so then what size are they or what part nomber are they ?
To those with automatic transmition , how do you change the light bulb that lights up the insde of the shifter , i dont know how to open that thing and i was wondering if someone can help me ..
i'm not sure..however i will look in to it.. there has to be a way.. does anyone know how to do this?

"Drive Well......Drift Better"
I Figured it out ! you have to take out thecenter armpeice thing ( dont know what to call it) basicly two bols insde the armrest and two screws underneath the shifter panel , then the lamp is at the side from underneath , i reached in and pulled it out , i have no pics ( no camera)
ok , time for one more question , as this post says , i just changed my gauge cluster bulbs to blue LEDs , which look great , now , almost a week later one of my LEDs keep turning on and off , i dont know why ! , i had the same problem the day i did it but i interchanged the sockets and it worked fine , now before i go and take my cluster out again , can someone tell me what kind of problm i am looking at ? did i damage the circuit board ? the sockets ? i am sure it is not a bad LED , so can anything else cause this ?
I just saw this thread today and in regards to your interior lights, i have them inside and have never had any trouble with the cops. Heres a couple of pics of my interior at night:

I have 2 15" neons underneath the dash, and one small one in each vent. It looks awesome at night. Heres the Underbody kit i have on my car also, its a gold series streetglow neon underbody.

Former Celica Owner... RIP 08-2007Now proud owner of a 2007 Solara w/ TRD exhaust, TRD FTSB, TRD Lowering Springs & many other goodies...
Your interior look great , I am interested in knowing how you wired it up so plz tell me , as for my MAIN concern right now : my gauge cluster light , it is flickering , turning on and off and it is extremely irritating , just took the whole thing apart and did some tests , the Socket turned out to be bad , i somehow messed it up ! , so where can i get a socket !
Do i have to buy another cluster off ebay ???
This is the second time i messed up !!! i broke my climate control and had to buy a new one ! man , customizing my car is costing me alot !! ( it shouldnt , but i keep messing up )

the socket is bad on the LEd? do you mean the little twist base you put the led into? if that is the case you should be able buy a new base from an led site or the dealership. But if the contacts on the cluster are damaged you will ahve to get a new one, def get off of ebay much cheaper. Rule of thumb take your time, and dont try to force something if it is not fitting.

num194 five way refractor led's look great in the guage clusters, should only need 3

When i started changing my bulbs I brought some white ones of ebay. they lasted about 2 weeks befor they all started to flash and some had died, it is just becaus the bulbs are cheeply made, not saying that we dont try to get the best deal but i found that the resistors were burning out in the bulbs.
I did buy some better ones but was not happy with the brightness they are grate for the out side of the car(park light),
so now i have made my own LED light using better resistors and brighter LED's

Ok Gladys, lets play house, you be the door and I'll shut you.

for some reason my gauges look green... they are actually a white/purple color and look brighter in real life, maybe its all that blue... the clock is also a lil bit more white, but some green leaks through, cant see in that pic

i also recommend hid's from culp, great mod to night time lighting:

ok , i exhcanged the bulb several times , pretty sure it is the socket ! i looked arround for it and couldnt find it anywhere then went to the dealership and they asked for 15 $ , so i baught an entire cluster off ebay for 20 $ , to me this seems like a better deal lol , anyways , just in case my LEDs start going out , what is the best brand of LEDs that i should use ? how much do they cost and where do i get them from ?

Also, how did you guys wire those lights !!

if the led is blinking, try pulling the 194 base led out of the twist socket a little bit

like | is bottom of the led
and [ is the top open end of the twist base
and ] is the bottom of the base where the led end goes

isntead of it being like this: [....|]
try doing this: [...|.]

mine did the same thing and thats all i did and no problems since and its been a month or so

autolumination has some good ones, you mainly want an led or cluster of led's that are bright and uniform so you dont have any dim spots or really bright spots

hmm , well , this is great ! thanks but i already placed a bid on a 20 $ ebay cluster ( so i can take one of the sockets off of it ) so ......is there any way i can get out of the bid thing ( i am new to ebay too)
Ok , so my climate control arrived in the mail and i immediatly start to tackle the "blue" issue , painting the back of the buttns didnt give me good results , painting the bulbs didnt work ! and soldering is out of my abilities....so i went on autolummination.com and baught some bulbs for it ! they have it , the unit uses three small bulbs , i think it was NEO wedge bulbs or leds ... easier and more effective than paint and stuff, i cant wait for the to arrive in the mail so i can find out how it iwll look
