What are you going to use for the rear ?

I will return one day.
i'm not sure yet,

I'm not going to decided anything suspension, or drivetrain wise until i have the bellhousing in my hands and i know it is going to work.

just a starting idea is the ST205 rear end....its kinda crazy when you think a bellhousing which isn't susp. related at all affects SOOO much...i can't decided what suspension i'm running, what motor mounts, shifting setup, brakes, wheels ect.

Though i guess i'll be able to learn a lot more about RWD setups when i get my new car in....MMMMM rwd + 6 itbs smile.gif

hey. are you doing an awd convertion. cuz if you are I want to know every thing about it. I want to do it too. biggrin.gif

I would take alot of time to research weather or not the AWD 205 diff will be able to handle being RWD only. You should find out some detail about that 5th gen with the V8. That was RWD, you should see what rear they used. Also look into gearing, I dont think a rear diff would be geared the same as a RWD. I never got to detailed with the info I was looking at, just the basics.

You should really have one project thread, this way we could all help you find the right rear end or other things that you may need. Not only would it help you, but it would add greatly to the site.

I will return one day.
I could take some time and combine all my "Little turtle" threads laugh.gif
i don't even know why i started that?

I have taken into consideration the Diff differences, and I have started doing research on it. Gearing well I'll be having the W58 rebuilt and i think there is someone who will change the gearing for you (again i'm only very very shallowly into this right now) I've heard good and bad about this W58 tranny kindasad.gif I have LOTS and LOTS of research to do for the gearing and differential setup because of a few factors
1) this will be a road course car, so i need gears that will work for that
2) the car will have a pretty good sized turbo so i have to find an efficiency range and where the gearing will work with that

there is just lots and lots of different variables inside this project that will take many many hours of calculating, research, and trial

the other consideration i've though its just to use the rear from an AE but like i said i'm really just getting the tip of the iceburg here. the bellhousing is just my security step since its my achilies heal to the entire project. By no means will it be on the car in even a year. So please look forward to much more research posting of various information. and feel free to contribute anything. as well as good suggestion on that V8 celica i'll look into that.

im still thinking about what i wanna do for my drivetrain in the future. if my dad has any say in it, ill be using an s10 rear end and it will be a mish-mash of drive train parts lol. Dan take alot of pics.

When I say gearing, I'm taking about the rear differential. You wont need to worry about gearing a RWD tranny for RWD. You need to worry about gearing the AWD rear diff for RWD.

Look into ae, celica supra, first gen celica rears. If the cars share the same wheelbase as ours, you should be in the money. Then its a matter of a ton of subframe work. Make sure you have a level laugh.gif

Yea i got what you ment, sorry i ment to type in the diff gearing as well lol (i'm at work trying to multi task haha)

yea level thats a task in its own lol, my garage is so old the floor is like a freakin wave....but that just gives me more reason to rebuild that old shack haha..
Gather all the links to your scattered threads. One can make one nice long detailed thread.

I will return one day.
Yea, if i don't have to work @ Job #3 tonight, i'll compile all my crazy things into one thread.....

hrm maybe we should have like a "progress" of larger projects section...as like a subforum?

Cause i know like Itchy, Chris, and a few of us have some larger builds going on...if we had like a "large projects" subsection of general discussion maybe?
cause i mean with 3 or 4 of the largest projects bouncing around in various sections its crazy lol
dan
the W58 tranny came on Celica supra 1983-1986 and supra 1986.5 - 1992 non turbo

on celicasupra, com they have a few stories about how the tranny is not good for 350 HP and + but that's with the early version so you may wanna use a MK III tranny is basicly the same tranny with some upgrades ( not much internal that I know of )

try to get some info on the rear diff on those celicasupra they have different differential gear ratios.

I know mine has a 4.30 ratio

some other have 4,10 and 3.70 and such depending on your power goals one will be better than the other. and they all match the W58 tranny. all you'd need is a custom shaft

Thanks bro that info really helps!
problem w/ one thread for a big project is too many pages of just people going "kewl"

that being said...

The W58 tranny is an awsome tranny. What ever you do, dont get a W50...AE86 gear boxes are sloppy and weak. But seriously...W58 tranny, solid, heavy tranny. It can handel lots of power aslong as you have a good clutch.
